and yes, i am aware that this is extremely cringey and cliche now that i look back at it. however, i definitely don't have the energy to rewrite it, sorry!

𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐁𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐋𝐄, the giant war, i'd spent more and more time at camp half-blood; of course, i occasionally still disappeared for a few months in the underworld. today was the days i finally returned to camp. it'd been almost four months since i'd last been there.

"nico!" exclaimed percy excitedly, the moment i arrived at the grassy fields of my home. i suppose it was my fault since i had decided to shadow travel into the direct middle of the camp. anyways, i was tackled into a hug by my favorite cousin; no offense, thalia.

"hi," i mumbled patting his back awkwardly.

"how are you? are you okay? have you been in the underworld all this time?" percy fired question after question at me.

"perce, let the poor boy breathe. you've been attacking him with questions ever since he's arrived."

i shifted my eyes away from percy and towards the sound of the voice. it was an absolutely stunning demigod standing beside him. i gulped. how was anyone expected to function properly when they were around?

"hey, i'm y/n. what's your name?" they asked kindly, sticking their hand out for me to shake.

"i'm nico," i answered somewhat shyly. i prayed to the gods that's my hand weren't ice cold, as i shook their hand. my pleads must have been heard because y/n didn't seem to flinch when our hands came into contact.

"are you new?" they asked curiously, their head tilting to the side. i felt my heart flutter. "actually, that was a dumb question. you obviously already know percy. if anything, i'm the new one," rambled y/n nervously.

"pardon y/n's behavior, nico. they tend to do this a lot." percy grinned mischievously. y/n smacked him hard on the back of the head.

"i do not," they hissed. "be quiet, seaweed brain." my fluttering heart faltered.

what if they like percy? i have no chance with them. i'd never be good enough for them. i'm nothing compared to perfect percy. who would want the creepy son on hades?

"nico, you there?" y/n shook my shoulder lightly. i nodded hastily, snapping out of my daze. " i was asking who your godly parent is. i'm a child of
y/g/p." i felt myself go pale. do i tell them? they'll probably hate me.

"oh, neeks here is my cousin." percy piped up, resting a casual arm on my shoulder. i resisted the strong urge to hit him.

"percy's cousin? so that means you're either a son of zeus or a son of hades. but, i'm going to go with a son of hades." y/n finisher after a moment of contemplation.

"good job, y/n/n! you're getting better." percy exclaimed, pulling y/n into a tight embrace. y/n glowed a dusty pink.

i felt an eruption of jealousy and resentment and there was nothing i'd rather do more at that moment than to hit percy. nevertheless, i knew my thoughts were incredibly irrational. so what, if y/n blushed when percy hugged and praised them? i never had a chance with them in the first place.

"nico, are you okay?" i looked up to see y/n and percy looking at me in concern.

"i'm fine, thank you very much," i snapped before marching to my cabin to rest.

i flung myself onto my bed and screamed in impediment into my pillow.

"why doesn't anyone like me? why do they always choose percy?" i groaned in frustration.

"that's not true," i heard a small voice say.

i immediately looked up to see y/n standing in the doorway of my cabin. i frowned.

"you shouldn't be in here," i mumbled.

"too bad." they shrugged and sat down on my bed.

i looked at them, completely dazed and confused. maybe it's because i'm so used to people running in the other direction when around me. being known as the 'son of hades' doesn't exactly give a great first impression.

"what?" they asked, brushing a strand of hair behind their ear.

"oh, uh. it's nothing." i muttered before slumping against my pillow again.

"well, a little birdie told me you have a crush." y/n said mischievously with a tiny smirk.

"uh, what," i asked dumbfounded. i could feel my cheeks warming up, and they were with no doubt, a brilliant red. y/n laughed a little as they glanced from my eyes to my cheeks. i groaned and cursed myself. my painfully pale complexion most likely made the blush stand out even more.

"so, neeks. who do you like?" they asked, a small smile appearing, kicking their legs playfully like a child.

"no one," i said immediately. i couldn't help but blush even more at the pet name.

"come on, nico." my face remained stoic, and i didn't respond.

"nicoo. nico. nico. nico. nico. nico. nico. nico. nico."

"what," i groaned, stretching out that last consonant.

"please," begged y/n, sticking out their bottom lip. i couldn't help but smile. they're just too adorable.

"they doesn't like me. no one likes me. i'll just always be the creepy ghost boy." i finally replied solemnly. y/n frowned.

"that's not true, neeks. plenty of people like you."

"you."

"huh?" y/n tilts their head to the side in puzzlement. gah, when they does that my heart melts.

"i like you," i repeated slowly, my cheeks coloring.

"aww, neeks, i like you too." y/n said with the cutest smile on their face. i couldn't stop the huge smile spreading across my face.

"be mine?" i asked uncertainly. y/n smiled softly and ran their hand through my hair. i melted into their touch.

"of course! you're my ghost king."
