Chapter 36: The meeting

I woke again in Daniel's room in darkness.
"Daniel." I called still half asleep.
"He's downstairs in the dining room." Alastair said from the couch.
"Why are you in here?" I asked.
"He asked me to watch you and keep you in the bedroom. They are having a meeting downstairs."
I stood up off the bed.
"Where are you going?"
"I've gotta pee. Am I not allowed to go to the bathroom?" I asked snobbishly.
"Be quick. If I have to come get you we are going to have problems."
"Give me ten minutes." I said.
I went in the bedroom and started rummaging through the cupboards. I wanted to see if there were an cosmetics in any of the drawers. Just as I was about to give up I found what I was looking for. Drawers full of every color of everything I needed to fix my face up. 
I quickly gathered what I needed and dumped it on the counter by the sink. I ripped open packages quickly and applied the products to my face. I brushed my hair out and smoothed my clothes.
I crept from the bathroom quietly and made my way out in to the hall without him hearing me. I walked quickly down the stairs and made my way to the dining room.
The room was full of men speaking different languages. I scanned the room searching for Daniel. Finally I saw him.
I walked through the room in his direction when I was intercepted by a tall blond man. I knew this man. What was his name?
"Ana! I'm so excited to see you." He said throwing his arms around me.
I watched Daniel turn toward me when he heard my name.
"Hi, how are you? I feel like I haven't seen you in forever." I said hugging the man. "Elias right?"
"You said that like you don't remember me." He smiled.
"I don't know what I was drinking with Daniel last night but I was wasted and even sleeping all day I can still fill it." I lied. "Who are all these people and why are they here?"
"Business. Bad business. Most of them are here for Roman's human trafficking, drug shipments, or other illegal bullshit."
"Why are you here?" I asked looking over at Daniel who was now walking towards us.
"I would tell you but I'd have to kill you." He whispered leaning in. "So, you were drinking with Daniel?"
"Yeah."
"And you slept here?"
"Yes." I said.
Elias smiled at me.
"Are you getting at something?" I asked him.
"Are you sleeping with him?" He smiled.
I took Elias's arm and pulled him a little further away from everyone.
"Yes if you must know." I whispered as we walked away. "I would appreciate it if you didn't say anything to Sandro."
"Ana, I'm so sorry. I knew that the two of you had started nitpicking each other at home but I didn't know it had gotten so bad."
"Sandro stopped talking to me. He started coming home late and being really secretive. I think he may be cheating on me." I said.
Elias grabbed my hand and pulled me in for a hug.
"Hug me, continue to act sad and listen. Your lying to me Ana." Elias said keeping me pulled to his chest. "I've known you since you were born and Sandro is my friend. I can believe you saying you were drinking. I can believe you slept over and possibly fucked Daniel. But what I can't believe is the bullshit you just said about my friend that has been nothing but loyal to you since you got married, if not longer. I spoke to Sandro this morning. He told me you lost most of your memory after the accident. He told me you took off and someone kidnapped you. Which leads me to believe that you are here against your will and you are scared to leave. Daniel is really good at his job Ana. Why do you think all these people are here? He will make you think your in love with him, he will make you trust him, he will take care of you, but none of it is real. He is brainwashing you to be a perfect little slave. Do you want me to help you? I can get you out of here."
"No, Vince is going to come get me." I said.
"Vince thinks your in Spain Ana." Elias answered.
"But my locket tracks my location." I said confused.
"Your locket is in Spain Ana. Vince tracked it to somewhere in Spain. This one your wearing isn't the one Vince's. I'm telling you Ana, Daniel is going to hurt you." Elias said.
"Where is he?" I asked. "Where is Daniel?"
"He got stopped by someone. Ana, do you want me to help you?"
"Yes, I want to go home." I said starting to really cry. "I want to go home to my husband. I don't know where I am or what to do."
"I'm here for you. I will get you out of this. There is a party on Sunday. Do you know if your going?"
"Daniel was talking to his brother about it but I'm not sure if we were going."
"Ask him later if he is taking you. He's going to want to show you to everyone, so I'm sure your going. There will be enough people there that he won't know who took you. Dance with anyone who asks you. I need you to stay away from him as much as possible. Only leave with me or my brothers."
"Are you going to hurt Daniel?" I asked.
"No. I don't want anyone hurt if possible. I'm going to kidnap you from your kidnapper. I'm going to get some guys together and I will be the one to grab you."
"Don't trust anyone. Grayson O' Callahan sold me out. That's why I'm here."
"Noted. Daniel is coming." Elias said. "Good for you Ana. You shouldn't put up with this from Sandro, if he's cheating divorce may be the best option. It's a good thing for you to move on."
"Ana?" Daniel said. "What's wrong? What did I walk in on?"
"I told Elias that I left Sandro and we are going to be together." I said letting Elias go and hugging Daniel instead.
"The two of you will be good together. I'm happy you found someone to lean on when your going through such a difficult time Ana." Elias said.
"I thought you were going to stay upstairs." Daniel said.
"I wanted to see where you disappeared to. I didn't know you were in a meeting, I'm sorry." I said.
"It's not a big deal babe. I told you I want you to be part of every part of my life." Daniel said holding me tightly. "You are so beautiful Ana. You shouldn't be crying."
"Um, do you know where my shoes disappeared to?"
"Are they are in my office still?" Daniel asked.
"Can you unlock the door so see and I can grab them if they are."
"Excuse us Elias." Daniel said and took my hand.
"It was good seeing you again Elias." I said as we walked away.
Daniel lead me out of the dinning room to his office and opened the door. We went inside and he closed it behind us. I walked over to the desk and found my heals.
"Let me help Ana." Daniel said. "Sit on my desk."
I did what he asked and sat on his desk. He sat in his office chair and scooted forward making me set my feet on either side of him. He pushed my knees apart and pulled me toward him, wrapping his arms around my back. Then he sighed laying his head down on my thigh.
"Are you okay?" I asked him.
"No. I'm exhausted Ana. I would like nothing more than to go upstairs and fall asleep with you. I've been running all day. I just want to hold you for five minutes and breathe."
"When do you have to go back in there?"
"About 20 minutes. My dad can entertain them for now."
I rested my hands on his shoulders and let him have his time. He feel asleep holding me against him. I watched the time just as five minutes hit Daniel's office door opened quickly.
"Daniel!" Alastair said coming in frantic.
"What." Daniel growled not moving.
"Ana." Alastair said looking at me confused.
"I've got her, as you can see. What do you want?"
"You need to teach her the rules Daniel. I'm not going to be responsible if she disappears."
"I've got her. Take five minutes, calm the fuck down and come back."
"This is bullshit little brother." Alastair said angrily. "Fix it."
Alastair left the room and closed the door behind him. Daniel cuddled closer to me squeezing me tightly.
"Five more minutes baby." He pouted.
I gently set my hand on his head, lightly brushing his thick brown hair back. I let him sleep for ten minutes. He seemed to need it. I sat there admiring how beautiful he was while I wondered if what Elias had said about Daniel was true. Regardless of the answer I trusted Elias to get me home safely. I had grown quite found of Daniel in the past couple days but I knew it was time to go home.
I heard the office door open behind me. I turned my head to look at who was coming in. Daniel's dad walked to the desk, sitting in one of the chairs on the opposite side.
"It's time Ana." Max said. "I need him in the dining room"
"Can he skip your meeting?" I asked.
"No, He has to go." He said. "I need him for this. It was his idea."
"What was?"
"A small change in the trafficking part of our business. He wants to make it more human. He hates kidnapping woman rich and ripping them down to nothing. He wants to start taking the ones that have nothing and start educating them. He wants to teach them to be proper wives and mothers instead of just hookers and laborers. Seventy five percent of the woman we move end up as one or both. Of the left over percentage, twenty percent end up dead. Only five percent of the girls we move have decent lives. My son wants to change that."
"It's not a bad idea. But why not just stop, You could not take them at all?"
"Money, it's always been about money. One week after he woke you up he came up with this idea. The crazy thing is, they like it. Everyone we sell too. We have everyone throwing money at us asking us to make it happen because they can sell the girls for more money if they have some sort of education."
"Was it about money with me?"
"No, with you it's different. He's different. He genuinely loves you Ana. He doesn't trust women. Every time he ever has they've chewed him up and spit him out like garbage. Your the first one he's allowed himself to get close to in over ten years."
There was a knock on the door. Alastair opened the door and came in.
"We're ready for you." He said.
"Ana. It's time to wake him." Maximus said.
I nodded and looked back at Daniel. I gently brushed his cheek.
"Daniel, wake up." I said shaking him lightly. "It's time to go."
"Mmm." He grumbled as he stirred. "How long was I asleep?"
He sat up and ran his hands over his face and then back through his hair.
"About fifteen minutes." I said. Do you feel any better?"
"I'm not sure yet." He said.
"It's time for your meeting."
"I'll be out in just a minute. Give me a minute with Ana." Daniel said looking at his dad who nodded and left the room closing the door.
"Is there anything I can help with?" I asked.
"No ana. I would prefer if you weren't in the room." Daniel said putting my heels on my feet.
"Why?"
"We are discussing a part of my life that I want to protect you from."
"I'll be safe because I'll be with you."
"Ann," he sighed standing up. "Your either going to get upset or cause a problem. I don't want that."
"I won't get upset." I said defensively as I slid off the desk.
"Two and two makes four babe." He said taking my arms in his hands.
"Please Daniel." I said putting my hands on his hips.
"I need you to go with Alastair and stay where he can see you. I will be in to get you when we are finished. Go watch a movie or talk to the other girls. You'll be fine."
"How long will you be?"
"A couple hours. Then we can be together the rest of the night."
"Promise?"
"I promise I will be in to get you at 7:15. Not a minute later."
"Okay." I said pushing up on my toes and kissing him.
He kissed me back.
"I like that you do that." He said when I pulled away
"What?"
"When you kiss me like you love me." He said.
"I do."
"You do?"
"I love you Daniel." I said.
Daniel pulled me in to a tight hug and held me tight. "I love you too baby. I love you too."
