The news of Alex and Jessica's break-up spread like wildfire. Apparently, they were 'the couple' before she started going out with Justin Foley, who was also one of the jerks in my brother's team. Suddenly, they were the power couple in school.
Jeff didn't want me talking to them, knowing very well just how disturbed I would become by the fakeness of everyone's hype. Well, don't worry big brother. I don't like them.
People still bullied Hannah by giving her the stink-eye look and talked bad about her behind her back. I felt bad for her but she did tell me to back off. After the incident at Blue Spot, I didn't want anymore screaming from her.
But! Justin Foley spread rumours about her that I wasn't too happy about. Plus, he was also one of the initiators of the list Alex made. Hannah told me she didn't want my help. Great! I won't help her.
"Nat?" I looked up at Dad at the breakfast table, his plate stacked with four toasts. "I remember you telling me that you needed paints for work. You've been studying so much that I wonder if you would need to make time for yourself to enjoy the hobbies that you are good at. There is a can of paint left in the garage in case you want to use it for something."
I smiled at his thoughtfulness. "Thanks, Dad. I'm sure I can use it for something."
"I thought you could paint your room if you want. I know you've always wanted to do it."
"Really?" I jumped up and may have spilled my milk a little bit.
"Sure! Whatever you want."
"Oh definitely!" Jeff entered the room. "Natasha can have whatever she wants. She's the queen."
"Dad loves me more than you-ooh." I sing-songed.
"We love you both equally," stated Mom as she gave Jeff his breakfast. It was a usual sibling thing.
Wait a minute. There was a spare can of paint in the garage. A spare can of paint?
Natasha? Well done!
I made a plan and it was a damn good one.
I went to school early that day. Everyone knew that the power couple spent some time in the Home Economics room before school started. My plan was all set. No one was around and the school cameras wouldn't turn on until I told them to.
Yeah, about that. I hacked into the school system. Do not gasp! It was nothing illegal. It's not like they have anything confidential in there. Hacking is like breathing.
Anyway. I opened the door to the class a little bit. Thank goodness it didn't creak, and my plan was in motion. I couldn't wait to see the reaction from the school for the anonymous tip off.
Next, I went to the men's shower room. Don't judge me. Have any of you read Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase or watched the movie? Because that's exactly what I had done. Only Mr. Tanner was present there and he didn't mind me there. He just thought that he was probably in the women's restroom. He was easily confused by things.
I went about my work after that and switched the cameras on. I went to the library to return my book and I made small talk with Mrs. Winchester. She was a great person who deserved a better job than the one she had.
I came out as the warning bell rang. And just as I did, bingo! People were gathered outside the Home Economics room and there they were.
"Who did this!" Jessica screamed at the group as they started taking pictures.
"Come on, Jess." Justin dragged her and went in the direction of the shower rooms. Yes!
The next part of my plan was for the great Justin only. I had another way to get back at Jessica.
He went to the shower room and part two was in motion. I wish I could have told anyone about that. I was sure that Jeff would find out one way or another and I realised that I needed to collect the can before a teacher confiscated it.
The whole school heard a loud scream come from the shower room. I tried so hard to not smile, but Clay saw me. "Please don't tell me that was you, Nancy."
I was always pranking people but I only did it for justice and he called me Nancy because of that. "I'm not confirming or denying anything." I zipped my mouth. Before he could give me any advice, the bell rang and I started moving to the first class that morning.
"Not that fast, Smith." He caught up with me. "You dropped a can of paint on Justin and Jessica!"
"Why don't you announce it to the whole school, Jensen?"
"You cannot do that. You could get into a lot of trouble. What did you do about the surveillance?" I smirked a little bit which led to the whole thing downhill. Clay grabbed my arm, which made me stop walking. "You did not-"
"I'm not saying that I did."
"You can't do that, Natasha! It's not right!"
"And passing around wrong rumours about a person which leads to harassment at the Blue Spot is okay?"
He was dumbfound. "What?"
"Bryce almost harassed Hannah at the Blue Spot Liquor Store."
"And that is how you got that sprain?"
He pointed to my right hand. Instinctively, I hid it behind my back. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Sure, and that is why you hid your hand from me." He shook his head. "God, Nat!"
"Yes, Clay? This is God." Jeff joked as he ran up to us. "Please get that can before a teacher finds it," he told me. "You don't have to pretend to not have done what I am thinking and most definitely know you have done."
"On it." I gave him a salute before I sneaked the can into my bag.
After school got over, I went to the parking lot and pulled my cycle out of the parking space when Hannah Baker confronted me. "Did you do that to Jessica and Justin?"
I didn't look at her. I was still a little mad about her screaming at me. "I don't know what you are talking about."
"Come on. You know what I'm talking about."
"Look, Hannah." I finally looked up at her from the lock. "I'm staying out of your way. What I do or not do is not your business."
"I just don't want you getting into trouble for me." She smiled.
"Bye Hannah."
"Thank you!" She screamed as I drove away. A small smile crept up my face. Maybe Hannah wasn't so bad after all.
