The Date

"We're not unicorns! We're women!" Wendy punched a tree. "And we take what we want!"

"Yes!" I screamed at my laptop, watching Gravity Falls and wanting to finish it at once. I spilled some popcorn on the sheets and before I could pick them up, my phone buzzed. I picked it up and saw who was calling me.

It was Skye. "Hey, Smith?"

"Hi Skye." I said, pausing the show. "What's up?"

"We don't have to go to work today. I just got a message from the manager. They seemed to suggest that we didn't need to walk in today."

"Ah, okay."

There was an awkward silence between us. "Okay, bye then."

"Can we have a study group sometime?" I asked, before she cut the call.

"What?"

"Come on, you promised me!"

"Why do you even want to help me?" Wow, that was surprising.

"Because I do." I didn't know why I wanted to help people. It was the Hufflepuff inside me, I guessed.

"Ugh, fine. Text me the details. I don't like talking over the phone."

I laughed. "Me neither. And you got it."

After she cut the call, I picked the popcorn and put them back in the bowl but before I could continue, my phone buzzed once again. It was an unknown number. I usually don't pick up unknown numbers - not like I picked up known numbers - but I picked it up anyway.

"Hello?"

"Hello? Natasha? This is Tony. Tony Padilla."

"Oh, hey, Tony!" Thank God I picked up.

Wait. What was that guy doing to me?

"I was wondering if you were free today."

"Uh, yeah, I am. I don't have to go to work today for some reason. So, I'm free."

I was smiling. Why the heck was I smiling?

"Cool! There's a new movie at the theater."

"Movie? Count me in!" I said and slapped my forehead. It's a date! Obviously he was counting me in! Damn it, Nat.

He chuckled softly at that. "I'll pick you up around five?"

I looked at the clock. It was only two and I knew that I could gather up the strength needed for socializing by then. "Sure!" Why was I awkward around him? And we were only talking! That was why I preferred texting.

I finished the show and I thought that I would cry, but I didn't until the last five minutes. It was so emotional! I can't get through a single show without crying, now can I?

Around four-thirty, I went out of my room and saw that Jeff was sneaking the cookies I had made. "Hey!"

"Hey. You want the Ultimate Dessert?"

The Ultimate Dessert was a family tradition where we made layers and layers of sweet things like ice-cream, brownies, cookies and syrup. It could be anything as long as it was sweet. We've made some weird combinations but they always ended up tasting good.

"I'm going out soon."

"Oh yeah?" He asked, picking the tub of ice-cream from the refrigerator.

"Tony is picking me up."

"My little sister is going on a da-ate!" He sing-songed.

"Don't make a big deal out of it." I pointed my finger at him.
