Their First Date

I'm a heavy sleeper. I will not wake up if an earthquake passes over me. But but but but but! If someone is in the same room as me, I will wake up with a knife appearing in my hand out of nowhere.

Hannah got up early. "Oh, I'm sorry I woke you up."

"Nah, it's fine." I stretched my arms.

"I'm so sorry. I was just really tired and I didn't realise that I slept off."

"Don't worry about it, Hannah." I laughed. "I like sleeping on the bean bag." It was true. Bean bags were comfortable to sleep on, even if it did a huge work on my lower back and upper neck.

"And thank you for letting me stay. I-I don't know how I would've coped up with what happened yesterday."

"Your Mom wanted you to come over early actually. Breakfast?"

"You've done a lot for me lately. I don't want to be of trouble anymore," she said. "I'm going to leave." She walked towards the door but before leaving, she turned around and asked, "Do you want a ride to school, maybe?"

"Oh, um, thank you." I needed to drop my cycle off anyway. "Can Clay come? He lives nearby."

"Yeah, I know. Sure." Hannah smiled as I walked her out the door. "Meet me in an hour."

After breakfast, I called Clay and told him to meet me at my house. "What's up?" He asked when he arrived.

"You ride with me today, Jensen."

He raised an eyebrow at me. "You can't do doubles on your cycle. No offense, Smith."

I gave him a playful bump on the shoulder. "No. Hannah offered to give me a ride."

"What?" His face grew red as he started walking with me.

"You're asking her out. Tonight."

"What happened last night? With Marcus?"

My eyes simply had to widen at that moment. "Let's just say that I bruised my left hand as well."

He grabbed my left hand at that and glared at me. "You can't be serious! Who, Marcus?"

"Yeah."

"Awesome!" He gave me a one-arm hug as we reached Hannah's house. "I have a plan to ask her out. I think. I hope it works out. I'll swing it by you during lunch?"

"Swing by what?" Hannah asked as she walked up to us. "Hey, guys."

"Um, actually-"

"My cycle needs to be repaired and Clay was just offering to drop it off at the store for me." I interjected. Clay was a really bad liar and that's what a best friend does, don't they? A bro helps another bro get a girl/guy.

"Aww, that's nice of you." Hannah punched his arm playfully.

"Yeah, thanks." He looked at me and I winked at him as Hannah got inside the driver's seat.

"Take the shotgun," I whispered and got in the backseat.

I wanted to buy a ticket to this one movie that I wanted to watch, but apparently, I had to babysit my baby cousin after work. I didn't mind it really. She was really cute! She had tiny tiny hands and soft little feet. I have baby fever and she was the cutest little baby! Jeff had to work overnight and our parents were out of town for a conference.

I told Clay that I couldn't come to the theatre as we sat down to eat lunch. "Dude, you're talking like she is six months old. She's around two now."

"I know but she is just the cutest!" I spoke in a high-pitch voice, which only happened because of my baby fever. "Maybe I'll drop by later if I can. You can give me free popcorn...."

"What?"

".....or you can tell me everything afterwards." I took a sip of my water. Gotta need that H2O. "I don't know. Whatever."

"Actually, you will be able to watch us," he stated, making me raise my eyebrows at him. "So my plan is, after work, I'll taking Hannah to Monet's. If she'll agree to go out with me."

"Of course she'll agree! She'd be a little crazy not to."

"Thanks." I gave him a high-five. "What do you think?"

"Pretty simple. I like it," I said but he looked really tensed. "Don't worry. She'll agree." I gave him a reassuring smile before we discussed about the movie that I wanted to watch.

I tried making progress with Project Skye that evening. It did get a little better when she smiled at my bad joke. "That's really bad." She told me.

"I'm a bad joker," I said and she actually laughed. "Do you want to maybe have a group study sometime? I mean, I'm trying to help one of the students in our class."

She thought about it for a second before answering. "Sure. I'd like that."

I gave myself a mental high-five. Project Clannah was going on and it would work if he didn't screw up. Project Skye was under construction. Okay I know that I shouldn't ship real people together. I really do. But in my defense, they were soulmates. Knowing that they liked each other and weren't doing anything about it gives me a little nudge.

Next on my list was the repair shop because I really needed to drop my cycle off. The air in the tires became low very often, which was because of the holes in the middle tube in the wheels. "Damn it," I said as I parked it at home.

I spent the entire night with my baby cousin. We baked cupcakes for ourselves and stayed up to watch Tangled. I was crying towards the end and Ananya wiped my tears. I hugged her when she told me not to cry. She was the best! She was really mature for a two-year old.

It was around half past nine when Jeff came back. He had finished earlier than he thought. "Hey, I need to check up on Clay. Can you take care of Rory for a while?"

"Sure." He loved Rory more than me because he was a little crazy over girl babies. We shared a lot of videos actually.

I drove to Monet's but Clay and Hannah were nowhere. I couldn't find them in the back as well. I drove by the theatre just to make sure that Clay was okay and I found the most beautiful thing ever. They were star-gazing on the roof of the theatre. They were sitting really close to each other with theatre snacks around them. Before they saw me and I disturbed them, I drove out of there silently.

Great job, my friend. As I was about to go to sleep, my phone buzzed. "How were the stars, lover boy?"

"You're a real wizard, Smith. How did you know?"

"I have my own ways." I pulled his leg a little bit. "What happened?"

"We had to work the extra shift at the theatre. It gave me more time to actually prepare my words," he said. "At first, I wasn't sure she would agree."

"Why not?"

"Zach was there." Uh oh. "He was flirting with her the entire time! The movie was about to start and he was still laughing at the counter. I had to practically kick him into the screen." We laughed. "I just went for it. I asked her out and-"

"What did she say?"

"She told me that I should've done it a lot earlier than I did." He paused. "I couldn't believe what I was hearing!"

I laughed. "How did you come up with the back-up plan?"

"It was just something that struck me. That's all."

"Well, well, my friend. Looks like someone has a girlfriend now."

"She's not my girlfriend."

"Yet." I wished him a good night and slept off. It really was a good day.
