A few months passed by after the formation of the Society. Thankfully, everyone kept it a secret. Nobody talked about it and Sundays were reserved for meetings. We had formed an online group for support.
The last day of the hearing arrived and all of us were eager to know the verdict. I went to court with my Mom and Mrs. Jensen.
The Secret Society had made a pact to never let anyone else undergo what they did. We would support each other, as well as other people who were in need. We also promised to come together on the last day if we won the case. Everyone met up at a coffee shop nearby and if we won the case, we would show Bryce who we were.
The Judge walked inside and we got up. She sat down and so did we. She started reading out the verdict. "Since no one is going to come forward for the hearing, the verdict was hard to come on." She wore her glasses on. "The presented evidences against the accused, Bryce Walker are concrete and hence, I am charging him with......"
Let me not bore you with the details. I pulled my phone out and texted the group.
WE WON!!!!!!!!!
I could practically hear them cheer up. After the case was closed, I hugged the two best friends and looked at Bryce Walker. He glared at me but deep down, he was scared for his punishment. He wasn't going to juvenile jail but he was going to have to shift towns and he was going to be in the system. That was what he deserved.
I walked out of the court and saw everyone from the Society standing outside. They cheered as I exited and lifted me up in the air. Hugs were passed around and it was broken when the doors of the court opened once again.
Bryce Walker walked out with his parents. The press was waiting for them but the Walkers refused to speak with anyone. They had threatened the Judge about approaching a higher court for justice but the Judge assured them that they won't be getting any because Bryce was guilty as charged.
As they walked towards their car, he turned around and looked at us. We stood with our heads held high and I saw something in Bryce's eyes - guilt. Deep down, he knew that he deserved what he got.
If you ask me, he wasn't really a bad person. No one is born bad. They are made that way with what they live with. I blamed his lifestyle for who he was now.
"Natasha!" I heard Tony.
"Hannah!" I heard Clay.
They crossed the sea of reporters and journalists and when they found us, they hugged us. Actually, they spun us around.
The girls' boyfriends and girlfriends had also come. All of our parents were also present. The two attorneys were talking to the press while all of us went to Monet's for celebration.
Skye took our orders down. It was a huge crowd but everything was worth it in the end. Someone clicked her glass with a spoon. "Toast! Toast! Toast! Toast!" She stood up.
"I want to thank these wonderful women for their support and our leader - The Noble Natasha Smith." Cheers spread the room and I got up to bow down.
Hannah got up next. "I would like to thank my best friend for her support and for just being a wonderful human being." She said and I hugged her.
Tony got up next. "There is no better toast that I could give other than the fact that I get to call her my girlfriend." He said and there were whoops. I kissed him after he sat down.
"You guys are praising me way too much." I said.
"Yeah, and she might get on a high horse." Clay made fun of me.
"Oh really?" I asked him and covered his face with whipped cream from the cake we had ordered. "How is that for sitting on a high horse?"
The next day at school, there was a big crowd in the parking lot. Someone had devil-egged Justin Foley's car. I scanned the crowd for a familiar face and I saw one of the members of the Society. She nodded at me and I nodded back. That was not a part of the agenda and I knew that nobody from the Society did that. I was sure of it.
The Principal called me to his office and congratulated me. He also told me that he had no idea that Bryce Walker was like that - sure thing, Mr. Bolan.
After lunch, I walked to my locker to get the books out for the next class. My lockers were filled with flowers and cards. I honestly wanted to change lockers and ignore the one that I had.
"Natasha." I heard someone from behind me.
"Jessica." I turned around.
"Congratulations on winning the case." She said. I could see that she was having a hard time with what was going on.
"Thank you."
"I just wanted to say that Justin and I broke up."
"Okay?"
"He told me what happened that night at the party." She said. "He finally confessed. You were right and I should have believed you."
"Did you egg Justin's car?" I asked her.
"I don't know what you are talking about." She winked at me and a smile spread across my face.
"You deserve someone better, Jessica." I said. "In fact, I know that you aren't a mean person."
"Thank you." She was taken aback but she thanked me anyway.
"Or it could just be my ability to see the good in people."
"It's not." She told me and I nodded.
"Looking forward to see you change into the best version of yourself." I said and slammed the door of my locket shut.
I walked away, clutching to my books but something that Jessica said made me turn back. "Can I join you?" She asked me.
I turned around. "Sure." I said and she walked with me.
"I also meant whether I could join the Society." She asked, hesitantly.
"I don't know what you are talking about." It was my turn to wink at her.
She smiled. "So how does it work?" She asked me.
"A very old way." I said, referring to the passage of notes. "You'll learn soon." I said before she went to her class.
"Hey." Tony walked towards me and we walked together to our next class.
"Hey!"
"What was that about?" He asked, referring to Jessica.
"Nothing." I said. "Just to new beginnings."
