Hermione went to her office, deciding to bury her sorrows and frustrations in law reformation. During the walk through the ministry, she decided to swing by the Auror department and check on the missing wizards reports. Who knows, maybe she would finally find out who the wizard with missing eyeballs was, one could hope anyways.
Low and behold, on the bulletin board there was a new picture smack in the middle of a bulletin board, still full from the casualties of war. A middle aged wizard with sky blue eyes, Hermione quickly took a glance around the barely populated room to make sure no one was paying attention to her, before tearing the parchment paper down and shoved it in her bag. She and Draco would research this Jeff Langston together, and try and connect the dots. Figure out where he crossed between their lives and the life of Fenir.
Hermione made quick work of the walk from the Auror department to her desk in the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. She walked in, and felt like she was at her home away from home. All the stress of private life just melted away, as she closed the door behind her and sat her bag down, before slumping in her office chair for a quick pity party.
Once she had recollected and put her thoughts back together enough to focus on the task at hand, she pulled out her roll of parchment looking at where she was. First she needed to find a cheaper and easier substitution to the wolfsbane potion, which Draco would begin working on finding come Monday. Now for her to just word the proposed law in a way that gets it passed, and then find a distributing location that werewolves can come to access it, and then the budget for the potion and employees to run the location. Hermione smiled, this was the type of work that breathed life into her soul and help her stay balanced, she cracked her knuckles and put her hair in a top not, dipped her quill into fresh ink and began to lay out her plans.
Three hours, four broken quills, ten books scattered about, and countless pieces of parchment surrounding her, Hermione was broken from her trance like focus when her office door opened and closed. She quickly glanced up and her brown eyes met dark gray. Draco smiled at his girlfriend, her hair was mess, ink stains covered her hands, and she honestly had never looked more pretty to him.
"How far have you gotten, love?"
"I've came to the conclusion that everything will have to be nonprofit, so we will need to do some fundraising for sure, but I have a budget in mind, for price per potion per person, a location budget, and an employee outline. I just have to find someone who wants to plan a gala, and someone else who wouldnt mind possibly donation a location, any ideas?" She asked him, a grin tugging at the corner of her mouth as he sat down beside her on the carpet.
"My mother is amazing at party planning, and is always looking for an excuse to re-brand the Malfoy name, also we might have a suitable enough building available, we can go check it out sometime this week if you would like." That statement earned Draco a happy kiss from Hermione.
"Thank you." Before he could respond however a paper sticking out of the corner of her bag caught his attention. Draco reached over, and pulled it out, showing the full picture. It was a man turning towards whoever took the photo and smiling, his eyes stood out the most in the picture and Draco glanced at the name.
"Missing: Jeff Langston, 31, Magical Animal Researcher has not been heard from in a month, family and girlfriend are worried, contact your local Auror department if seen or you have any information about his where abouts."
"I was going to bring that to you this evening, I found it on the board today in the Auror hallway, but those are definatly the eyes that showed up at our doorstep that day."
"I know and I knew the day they showed up who they belonged to, I just didnt want to be right. Bill is going to be upset. Jeff was apart of our pack, he didnt show up to often, he preferred to go off and adventure and travel, but once every few months he would pop in for a couple of weeks." Draco explained.
Draco exchanged a look with Hermione, "Are you almost ready? I dont want to leave you here alone with the ministry nearly empty and a lunatic on the loose."
She shrugged. "Im used to lunatics from our Hogwarts days, but yes I can pack up a few things and continue to work on this at home"
Draco took the bag from her once she was satisfied with everything stuffed in it and hauled it over his shoulder before taking her hand in his. He opened the office door and let her lead the way to the fireplaces. The hallways were so quiet they could hear their footsteps echoing, each time they made a movement.
Draco swore he heard something behind them, he quickly turned around, the hair on the back of his neck standing up, he used his free hand to quickly pull his wand out of his pocket... but nothing was there. Nothing he could see anyways.
"Come on Hermione, quickly, something doesnt seem right here." He told her quietly as he rushed both of them along. Draco knew now he could hear something following him, but you cant fight what you cant see. The only thing he could do was be on alert and rush them to safety. Something in his body told him to duck. He knew from his time living with Voldemort and his crazy aunt not to ignore his instincts. He quickly grabbed Hermione and threw both of them to the floor, his body covering hers to protect her the best he could.
He saw a bright red light hit the wall directly infront of them, the cruciatus curse. Something he was intimately familiar with, and something he would be damned if Hermione ever felt again. Draco rolled from off of her and stood up on his feet, his wand out in front of him. Hermione stood up as well, ready to fight whatever was hunting them.
"Hermione, I want you to quickly get to safety. Go to the potters or back to the pack house. I can take care of this."
"No, I can help." She protested "Neither of us needs to be seperated."
"Just this once, listen, and quit arguing. You have our child to think about, let me make sure both of you two are okay. Ill be able to fight a lot better without you here distracting me." Draco demanded, barely sparing her a side look.
Hermione of course, did not listen. Instead she placed her hand on back and apperated them both to the Potters. It was a quick apperation, not fully thought out, so they did not land gracefully, instead they landed in a puddle of tangled limbs and a broken coffee table.
However they were both safe, and both together. Thats all Hermione wanted when a mad man was on the loose.
"Draco can just deal, Im not leaving him alone" She thought to herself, as soon as she saw the look of anger on her boyfriends face.
