Prompt 8: Astrology is far advanced, and the day, place, the time you meet your soulmate is calculated for you. If you're fortunate enough.-via Tumblr/internet images
"Heads up!" I ignored them. I wasn't feeling well, in the first place, and didn't want to move. And, the boys in my class couldn't hit the broad side of a barn at twelve noon. I pulled my legs up and the book closer; maybe the words were blurry because it was a foggy day. I turned the page of my book and-
"OW!" The baseball smashed into me just above my left eye. Throbbing pain spread outward.
"I'm so sorry, are you okay?" It was Thomas. He was trying really hard not to laugh, then the smile slid off his stupid face. "Lisa... You're bleeding."
Something warm started to run into my eye. It burned. Oh no. Oh no, this isn't happening. I ran past Thomas and out the gate of the schoolyard.
I crashed into someone. The someone was a man in a very nice suit. He lowered his sunglasses at me and slowly smiled. I backed away, backing myself into the fence.
"Hello, I think it'd be best if you come with me." I shook my head. The man scowled; I'd gotten blood on his shirt. He reached for me and I ducked under his arm.
He grabbed the back of my shirt and started to drag me backward. A door to a fancy car opened and inside was a little boy. He was dressed all nice. He smiled at me and waved.
"Let me go!"
"No, missy. I'm under direct orders for you to meet your soulmate." We were getting closer to the car.
"Mister, I'm eight! I'm not ready to meet my soulmate!" I scratched at the man's big hands.
The man laughed. "The stars said so, missy. Frederick here is supposed to meet his soulmate today. Here. At this precise time. Who could it be but you? I saw the sign myself." The man opened the car door and started trying to shove me in.
"Please, come and sit down. What's your name?"
I shook my head and bit the man. He yowled and shook his hand. I ducked under his arm and started sprinting back to the schoolyard. I wiped my forehead, trying to get the blood off my eye, but only spread it to the other eye. I hit the fence, not being able to see, and I almost screamed. Someone put a hand over my mouth and I gasped.
"Shh, it's okay. C'mon, I know a place we can hide." Thomas pulled me under the bleachers. The man in the suit stomped above us, growling some not nice words.
He leaned down, and I couldn't breathe. It was like that awful feeling I got when I played hide-and-seek. It was the feeling that made me want to stand up and yell out where I was, the feeling that hurt the pit of my stomach and made me feel all squirmy inside.
"Shh," Thomas hissed quietly. I began to shake as the man whipped around and began to look harder. Thomas pulled me into a tight hug. Slowly, I stopped shaking. The man tromped off the bleachers, and I heard the start of a car.
"Is it safe to move now?" I asked, ever so quietly.
I felt Thomas stand up. He pulled me to my feet after a second. "Yeah, it's safe now. Come on, let's go." He started to walk away, but I still couldn't see. "Lisa?"
My eyes burned as I paid attention to it. I was really dizzy. I was falling forward. "Lisa!!" Thomas caught me. I was so tired. I tried to look up at Thomas. "Lisa, what's wrong?"
I shook my head. "I don't know."
"Here, let me help." He took his vest and wiped at my eyes, but it didn't help. I started to panic. I was so thirsty.
