“Christina…. Christina….” Jazz’s voice was faint and slowly got stronger as Christina slowly came to. She blinked her eyes open to see Jazz hovering over her with worry in her eyes.
“What happened?” Christina asked. A slight headache began to thump in her head as memories of what caused her to faint began to flood her head again. This was all too unreal. Realization set in.
Her father paid her wife to kill her the night they met.
“Christina, baby, are you okay?” Jazz asked.
“I’m fine..” Christina said dryly as she slowly got up. Jazz attempted to help her but Christina brushed her off. She was hurt to the core. The two people who she loved and cherished with all her heart weren’t who they said they were. She felt like her whole life was a lie. Since her mom passed away, everything in her life was a lie.
“Christina, I know this is a lot for you to take in, but we have to face the reality of it all. Your father is still trying to kill you. He won’t stop until you’re dead” Leo said sternly. “It’s either the two of you, or him.”
Jazz and Christina both looked at each other with concern in their eyes. They knew what they had to do and Leo was the link that would help them to do it. In an instant, Christina’s face suddenly turned cold and emotionless as she turned to Leo. “Fuck it,” she said, “He’s dead. What do we have to do?”
Jazz looked at her wife with shock. Never has she seen her so hurt and so vengeful. “Baby…. Are you sure? We can leave the country. We can make a new life somewhere else. We don’t have to do this if you don’t want to.”
“No, I want him dead. All my life, he resented my mother. All my life, he hated her for having so much money. She was born into a wealthy family so she never wanted for anything. He on the other hand had to work for everything. Lived paycheck to paycheck until he met my mom. I always thought there was something off about the love he had for her. She loved him dearly, you could see it in her eyes. My mother was head over heels for someone who wasn’t who they seemed..” Christina looked at Jazz as a single tear escaped the corner of her eye. “See the women in my family love hard. My mother fell for his game. I always thought he had something to do with my mother’s death… but my heart wouldn’t allow me to believe it. I want him dead. That’s it.” She turned to Leo once more and repeated her question. “What do we have to do?”
A cold smile spread across Leo’s face. “I was hoping you’d choose revenge. Without you, I wouldn’t be able to get my own against that filthy bastard. He’s in Brazil right now. One of my inside guys said that he heard word about Lena and is on his way back. He should be flying in at about 11. He has a beach house in California. I’m betting he’ll make his way there first. I’m just waiting for the call saying that he’s back in the US.”
“So, what, are we going to just run up in there spraying bullets like Cleo on Set It Off?” Jazz asked jokingly trying to lighten the mood. To her surprise, Christina cracked a smile. Christina’s soft spot for Jazz was uncontrollable. Even in the worst of times, Jazz still managed to make her smile.
“I’m pretty sure Leo has a better plan than that.” Christina lightly laughed.
“Well, that didn’t sound like a bad idea for a second there.” Leo joked. “But seriously, if we’re going to do this we can’t be seen. We can’t be noticed. We can’t be traced. Christina, you’re going to call him around 11 and say that you need him to come to the house. When he boards the plane to get back into town, we’ll get him. We have to leave to fly out there within an hour if we’re going to make it in time.”
“Ok” Jazz said as Christina nodded her heard in agreement. “Meet you in the lobby at 7” They exited Leo’s room and headed toward their own.
When they got back to the room, Christina immediately laid down on the bed, exhausted. She was emotionally drained. Jazz walked over and lay down beside her. Without a word, she wrapped her arms around Christina. Christina welcomed the comfort of her wife’s embrace as she melted in her arms.
“Why does shit have to be this way?” Christina asked.
“Sometimes, people aren’t who they say they are. Sometimes, life leads you down a path that you didn’t expect. Sometimes, things don’t go as planned and you end up falling in love with the one you’ve waited your entire life for.” Jazz responded. She held Christina and looked deep into her eyes. “I love you more than the stars in the sky, I love u deeper than the ocean floor, I love u here, I love you now, I love you forevermore”
Christina began to tear up as memories of their life together flooded her mind. Through the good and the bad, she loved Jazz more than anything. The love in her heart was too great to let go. Yes, she was hurt, but she missed her wife’s touch. She missed her embrace, she missed her scent. She missed her lips. Christina pulled Jazz in for a deep passionate kiss. As their lips locked and their tongues danced, every care Christina had in the world, temporarily disappeared. In that moment, the love they shared was all they needed. In that moment, Christina found happiness again. Even if only for a moment.
