"Let's get this over with." Gina Porter sighed and sat down with her backpack onto the bed of Nini Salazar-Roberts.
Nini's eyes traveled over Gina's facial features and sighed. Gina started to draw on the poster board in front of her as Nini watched her.
"Well, are you just going to stand there and stare at me or help me?" Gina smirked as the other girl started to grow red.
"Yeah, yeah. Sorry." Nini muttered and started to write on the poster board.
"So, are you going to the homecoming dance this Friday?" Nini asked, trying to spark a conversation between them.
"Nah. Dances aren't really my thing." Gina replied while still keeping her eyes on the board.
"Says the best dancer in our school."
Gina sighed and ran her hand through her hair. She ignored the other girl's comment and kept drawing.
"It's not like anyone would want to go with me anyway. No point in going if you're just going to be sitting on the bleachers the whole night."
Nini's eyes softened. She looked up at the other girl whose eyes were still trained on the board.
"Yeah, I understand that. I honestly can't even dance." Nini laughed slightly.
"Yeah, I've noticed," Gina laughed. "What- like slow dancing or just regular fast-paced dancing? Cause I'm going to be honest, you look pretty scary when you try to dance anyway." Gina smirked. Nini scoffed and shoved her arm.
"I'm not that bad! And, I mean, I've never actually slow danced with anyone before." Nini trailed off, drawing Gina's attention to her.
"Weren't you with Ricky for like, a year or two?" Gina questioned. Nini exhaled.
"Yeah, but I was always too busy to go to dances. This is the only time I'm not, so I'll probably end up going with friends. Besides, it's not like anyone would want to slow dance with me anyway." Nini chuckled and looked back down at the board.
Gina stood up and took out her phone.
"Wait- what are you doing?" Nini asked, confused. Gina held out her hand as Halsey's "Finally // beautiful stranger" started playing. Nini took a deep breath and let out a laugh. She took the other's hand and smiled.
"I don't exactly know how to do this." Nini chuckled.
"So just, put your hands around my neck," Gina instructed and led Nini's hands around her neck. She then put her hands on Nini's waist.
"And now we just sway to the music." Gina's eyes caught Nini's and Nini looked down, embarrassed that she'd been staring.
"Okay, I'm going to attempt to twirl you, you ready?" Gina asked. Nini nodded as a sign. Gina's arm started to go up, as well as one of Nini's, and Nini spun back into Gina's arms. Nini laughed as Gina bit her lip to keep from smiling.
Nini rested her head against Gina's shoulder and Nini swore that she could feel her heart jump. Gina rested her head on Nini's, and Nini felt her heart beat what felt like 100 times a minute. The song looped many more times as the girls stood there and swayed. Gina's lips reached Nini's forehead as Nini's cheeks started to flush.
She could stay like this forever.fin.
