Unknown POV:
"Did you give it to her?"
"Yes"
"Did you tell you won't be able to attend the dance?"
"Of course"
"Is she suspicious?"
"Y-no"
"Are you sure? This could spoil everything."
"Oh lord! Yes, I am sure."
"Good. It's gonna be quite an evening..."

Kiara's POV:
Saturday evening took a hell of a lot of time to come. Dad had to leave for work in the morning and before leaving, he told me to enjoy myself to the fullest.
"Try not to bring your partner home, or your mom might just get a major heart attack!" He winked.
At exactly 7pm, I started to get ready. I put on the beautiful dress and admired myself in the mirror for a few eternities.
It looked so gorgeous on me, that I never wanted to take it off. The dress hugged my body perfectly till my waist, enhancing my curves and flowed freely till my knees. It felt insanely soft and it's rose gold color really brought out my greenish brown eyes. My usually deathly pale skin looked almost semi human and my skinny frame looked unusually slender. I had literally no idea I could look like that.
I left my golden brown hair in loose waves down my back, a few tendrils curling around my face.
I'm not a huge fan of make-up so I went with a really minimalist approach. Just a bit of cherry lip gloss and some eyeliner did the trick.
Jewellery? A simple silver locket from my mom. I absolutely refuse to be loaded with trinkets draped all over me.
My hands looked a bit bare, so I slipped on an oversized ring and I was good to go.
Ha, ha. No such luck. I forgot shoes, damn it!
I picked out a pair of gold block heels. Not too high. I definitely don't wanna look like a wobbly baby giraffe taking it's first steps away from mommy.
I examined myself in the mirror and gave myself a thumbs up. Cassian won't be able to turn away from me!
I quickly took a shot of myself and sent it to Curly.
In a couple of minutes, her reply pinged back: "Absolutely splendid! He's gonna be swept off his feet!😉"
I grinned at her reply and went downstairs to see mom sitting on an armchair by the front door, reading.
Why the hell is she sitting in front of the door? "Hey mom"
She looked up and beamed, "Honey! You look gorgeous! Finally, you dress like a lady. My prayers have been answered!"
I rolled my eyes, "Thanks mom. But why are you sitting there?"
"What a silly question! To meet your -ahem- date, of course." She said, like it was perfectly normal for a mom to be sitting literally on the front doorstep to meet her daughter's date.
"Mom, seriously? You're gonna make Cassian think you're off your rocker! Please take that armchair back in the living room and meet him like a normal mom."
She huffed as she dragged the chair inside, "Really, kids these days.... no respect for parental protectiveness..."
"Is that even a thing?" Just then, the doorbell rang like an emergency bell.
I may or may not have squeaked, "He's here! Mom, behave!"
With a hurried final smoothing of my dress, I opened the door, trying to look as composed as possible.
My jaw dropped. Figuratively, of course.
Cassian Montez was standing in front of me, holding a bunch of lillies in his hands and smiling casually.
He was looking smoking hot in a dapper black jacket and black jeans. His navy blue shirt was unbuttoned at the collar, showing off hints of his muscular chest.
The jacket moulded on his torso like molten metal. His dark hair was delectably tousled and I fought the urge to beg him to let me feel it's luxuriousness. For some reason, I felt the need to be intimidated by him...
"Kiara. You look, ravishing, tonight."
He assessed me with hungry eyes, as though I was a tasty piece of meat and he were a lion.
He looked almost possessive. Almost greedy. Taking my hand in his, he kissed it ever so gently, "Your exquisite beauty is unparalleled." His lips felt like a feather gliding across my knuckles and sent bombs exploding in my head.
"Thanks. You look awfully handsome too. Nice jacket." I managed to string a few words together as he grinned.
Mom's inquisitive voice brought us back to reality, "Kiara, hon, isn't your date coming in? I'm excited to meet him!"
"She means she's excited to examine you and make you feel like a damned painting at a museum." I muttered to him, beckoning him inside.
He chuckled softly as he entered to face my over excited mom.
Before she could say anything, Cassian held out the lillies to her, smilingly, "Mrs Carlyle. Charmed to meet you."
He took her hand and kissed it lightly like a true gentleman. On the other hand, my very flustered mom stammered, "Likewise, dear. Y-you must be Cassian Montez. Kiara's told me so much about you." He nodded politely and glanced at me like, did you, now?
I rolled my eyes, exasperatedly. Mom was smiling and chatting with him like she hadn't been refusing to let me go with him just the previous evening.
I quickly put the lillies in a vase and grabbed my purse to leave.
"Come on, Cassian. We'd better get going, or we'll never reach on time. Mom, do you approve of my date?" I asked sarcastically.
She laughed, "Of course, honey. He's an absolute sweetheart. You couldn't have found a more charming date! Have fun, loves!"
Going bright red in embarrassment, I took his arm and pulled him outside. He laughed out loud as my mom shut the door behind us.
"Honestly, sweetheart? As if you were a kid!" I fumed as he led me to his Bentley parked at the gate.
"Your mom seemed rather eccentric. In an adorable way." He said, opening the front passenger door for me.
"Huh, she couldn't be more embarrassing. "
"No, she was a watered down version of you. As beautiful as you, but not as outspoken." He got into the driver's seat and started the car.
I raised my eyebrows, "Outspoken? Excuse me, mister, but I have no idea what you are talking about."
He smirked, "You are the most sharp tongued girl in the town."
"I take that as a compliment."
He chuckled again. That lazily husky chuckle!
We drove in silence for a bit. A comfortable silence. He broke it.
"Where's your dad?"
"He's had to leave Oakwood for his work. He really wanted to meet you."
"What a pity. I was hoping to meet your entire family."
"Please. Mom's enough for now. You would've gone bonkers if you had met both of them at once."
"Quite evident. You are proof enough of that." He smirked.
"Are you saying, by any chance that I am touched in the head?"
"Precisely. That's exactly what I'm saying."
"Cassian Montez!"
He laughed as I scowled at him.
"Don't make that face. You'll spoil the radiance of your beauty." He said softly.
He found me beautiful!
Come on, Kiara. Have some self confidence!
"I'm not saying it out of politeness, Kiara. I really do think you are beautiful." He looked at me with an unidentifiable emotion in his eyes, "Your's is not the artificial doll like beauty of the other girls. You are naturally an angel."
I blushed bright red, "Th-thanks, I guess. Most of the other girls at school are make-up addicts. I think they paint make-up onto their faces. Not with a paintbrush, though. With a wall brush."
"Looks like it. Why don't you like makeup?"
"It's for fake people. I prefer not to hide behind a veil of cosmetics, and show the world the real me."
"That's a poetic explanation."
"Do NOT call me poetic."
"But you're the most poetic person I have met."
"Did I tell you, you've got an amazing talent of annoying me?"
"No, you didn't. That's a useful talent to have."
"If you think your weak jabs got to me, you're mistaken. I'm not insulted that easily."
"Is that a challenge? Be careful who you choose to challenge, Miss Carlyle."
He again got that threatening look in his eye. I suddenly shivered in the warm summer evening.
"Did you ask me to the dance just to insult me?" I desperately tried to steer the boat onto safer waters.
"Not really. I just love a challenging challenge."
"A what?"
He grinned. I frowned, "So, I'm a challenge?"
"Yes, a very intriguing challenge."
"Ughh, I'm tired of that word! Don't say it again, please."
He laughed as he pulled into the school parking lot, where loads of students milled around, dressed in their best.
Or so they thought.
"I didn't know we were supposed to be dressed like overdressed clowns." I said as a couple passed by, the female half of which was wearing a huge, frumpy silver gown, fashioned to resemble a thousand tiered wedding cake.
"It's good, isn't it? We'll stand out." Said Cassian, opening my door for me and holding out his hand.
I sniggered, taking his outstretched hand and hoisting myself out of the car.
I slipped my arm through his elbow as he whispered in my ear, huskily, "Get ready, Kiara...."
I shivered as his soft voice caressed my ear.
".....It's going to be quite an evening..."
