Autumn's POV
*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*
The obnoxious sound of my alarm clock rang tearing me out of my slumber. I groaned rolling over and slamming the off button; my vision was still groggy but getting clearer as sleep faded from my eyes. I stared in hatred at the clock. 6:00 AM. Monday Morning. The worst time in the world.
It took most of the strength I could muster to roll myself out from under my big fluffy comforter and onto the floor. Then some more strength to stand up and walk to my bathroom.
"You look like the walking dead," my mom commented opening my bedroom door and flicking the lights on to make sure I was up and moving (something I usually wasn't at this time).
"Morning to you to mom," I replied cranky, rubbing my eyes from the light. She was still in her comfy morning robe, the short blonde curls that I inherited from her were all flung here and there from a mild case of bed head.
"Hurry up this morning, you don't want to be late for school, it's your first day," she reminded me, annoyingly awake.
"Yes mother."
"Autumn, it's all about first impressions," she reminded me once again.
"Yes mother."
She scowled and turned around closing the door in her wake.
I dragged myself into the bathroom flicking the light on.
"Oh Jesus," I cringed looking at myself in the mirror. My long, light blonde waves were everywhere and the bags under my eyes were horrible. I looked like a vampire despite the golden tan I had from a long summer in the sun. Unfortunately that was all to end today, as it was my first day of junior year at a new school.
I got a scholarship offer last year and it just so happens that my dads company was moving us over to this area anyway so today I would be joining the rest of the teen socialite world at Calverton Preparatory Academy. Luckily my best friend Danielle Scott, who has been attending since freshman year, is going to be there to help me out, which is how I have a spot on the school's dance team. We have some big plans for this year and if things go our way (they usually do), it should be a great but mostly interesting year.
I quickly hopped in the shower, and got ready for school.
I stared at my open closet for about 3 minutes trying to think what I could possibly wear today. Calverton encouraged individuality meaning no uniforms, giving me the problem of actually picking something out to wear... not always good for an indecisive being like myself. I ended up choosing my favorite pair of ripped jeans and a "Red Hot Chili Peppers" t-shirt from their concert I went to last summer and a pair of black chucks. Not exactly Calverton style but hey you want individuality? There it is.
I grabbed my keys and flew down the oak banister stairs, through the pale yellow foyer and into the bright open kitchen where the smell of bacon, coffee and chocolate chip pancakes greeted me. I didn't particularly like coffee but the smell of it in the morning along with some sizzling bacon made me feel right at home wherever I was. My mother was already at the kitchen table reading the paper. Our kitchen didn't even need lights; we had huge windows on every wall that overlooked the backyard inviting the sunshine in every morning.
Liam, my three year old brother, was sitting at the island placed in between the table and stove, eating some pancakes already, syrup dripping from his mouth and plate. He usually never fails to get half of it in his light curly brown hair.
