The Nine-Nine sat quietly in the SWAT van as they raced down the streets of New York to an abandoned house. There were reports of active shooters at the address, two citizens dead and a even more wounded. Once the van arrived at their location, they all piled out and immediately ran towards the house.
As soon as they entered there was at least three people firing at them. SWAT took one of the guys down whilst the others ran. Terry and Holt had already killed three guys at the main entrance before they ran up the stairs. Amy, Rosa and Y/N went around the back of the house and took down another 2 men before they made their way around to the stairs. Jake and Charles went through the kitchen and hit one of the guys in the leg but he managed to limp towards the stairs and escape.
From the information SWAT gave the group on the way over, between the Seven of them, they had killed all except one of the perps. There were now Ten or more officers looking for one injured man so there wasn't a big risk anymore. Y/N separated from Rosa and Amy and walked down the end of the hall, turning into an old dusty bedroom. She briefly checked the room and groaned internally before she walked out. Before she got to the door, she heard something that sounded like footsteps.
Her eyes widened when the last guy hobbled past the room, his head darting back and forth. She instantly took off after the guy, following the trail of blood drops from the wound on his leg. If she didn't kill him, the wound would. For a brief second, she lost the guy until she heard another noise that lead her to an open door. She cautiously pushed it open and gripped her gun tightly as she looked around the room, her eyes darting around every inch of the warn out room. When she determined the room was empty, she turned to alert the others when she suddenly felt a gun to her side
She swallowed thickly and watched as the officers ran into the room, their guns drawn on the shooter.
"alright lets be reasonable" Y/N tried but the guy wanted none of it. He gripped the back of her neck and yanked her head backwards, letting her knew opening her mouth was a mistake.
"let her go" Jake said as his eyes dart between Y/N, the shooter and the gun.
"let me walk out of here" The guy said and Y/N is sure she heard a smirk on his face.
"in your dreams, come on man. theres no where else to go" Jake pleaded, Y/N could see him starting to panic and she knew she needed to get out of here.
"I don't want to kill her, but I will gladly hurt her" The guy yelled. Before she even knew what was happening, Y/N heard Jake shout followed by two gunshots. She wasn't even aware of the wound in her side until she felt the warm blood trickle down her side and before she knew it, she was on the ground.
Jake dropped to his knees beside his partner and instantly pressed his hands onto the wound, trying not to show his worry when the blood pooled around his fingers like an endless flow. Beside him, Rosa kneeled beside the shooter and pressed her fingers to his neck, making sure he is dead. Amy stood nervously behind Jake, biting her nails as a way to stop her worries.
"call an ambulance" Jake yelled, Amy and Charles ran out of the room leaving Jake and Y/N alone.
"Jake I'm fine, its just-" Y/N started but trailed off when her vision becomes spotted. Her head suddenly felt like it's floating and if she didn't know it was logically impossible, she would think her heart was breaking through her ribs.
"no, Y/N stay with me!" Jake yelled as her eyes start to flutter closed. She desperately tried to hold on to the little strength she had left to keep her eyes open until the ambulance came but she eventually gave up when it becomes too exhausting.
Jake sobbed as he gently patted her cheek, desperately hoping to wake her up. He bit his lip to try and stop the oncoming tears as he pushed harder against the wound.
"The ambulance should be here soon" Amy said as she ran over to Y/N's side.
After what seemed like an eternity, sirens could be heard in the near distance. Jake and Amy both sighed a breath of relief and kept their gaze on their friend as they waited.
"its going to be okay, they're coming just hang on" Jake whispered as he gently brushed a piece of stray hair behind Y/N's ear. He jumped slightly when the EMT's came rushing over to them but he quickly moved out of the way so they can do their job.
The EMT's carefully lifted her onto a stretcher and rushed her back to the ambulance where they started to tend to the wound. Jake jumped in the back of the ambulance and watched as the medic cut open her shirt, revealing an extremely deep bullet wound. He thought he was going to pass out from the amount of blood that was smeared on her stomach but he pushed through.
"she's bleeding out" One of the EMT's shout suddenly as the Heart machine started to beep.
"She's crashing, starting compression!" he said before he began chest compression.
Jake's heart dropped to his stomach when the medic's strong arms started to push against her lean frame. He tried not to think about what that amount of pressure was doing to her ribs and instead focused on her long eyelashes. He never understood why but he found the way they brushed against her soft cheeks comforting.
After what seemed like an eternity, the Ambulance came to a stop and the EMT's rushed Y/N out of the back, one of them still pressing hard against her chest. Upon their arrival, a group of nurses and residents rushed over to them and took over the compression's.
"what do we got?" one of the nurses yelled as they pull the stretcher through the hospital.
"26 year old female, gunshot wound to the rib cage" the EMT explained as he wiped some sweat off his brow with the back of his hand.
"take her to the OR" the nurse instructed.

Jake paced back and forth, anxiously biting his nail as he does so. He would much rather sit down and patiently wait for any news but every time he sit's down, he feels like his chest is tightening and he cant breathe. He sighed and looked at his watch to see barely a minute has passed since the last time he checked. He had been at the hospital for a total of three hours without any updates."God what is taking so long? she's been in there for hours" he muttered to himself. As if on cue, a very exhausted looking nurse walked over to him and smiles.
"the surgery wasn't without its complications but we managed to repair the artery. She's sleeping now but you're welcome to see her" he explained with a smile. Jake sighed a breath of relief and followed the nurse through the halls of the hospital until they stopped outside a room. The nurse smiled reassuringly at him before he walked away, leaving Jake alone.
Jake took a deep breath and stepped inside the room. He felt relief wash over him when he walked to the bedside to see his girlfriend safe and sound. He sat down on the chair beside the bed and reached out to grasp one of Y/N's hands in between both of his, finding the warmth of her hand comforting.

Two days later, two days of Jake sitting on the chair beside the bed rubbing gently circles on the backs of his girlfriends hands, Y/N woke up. He had his chin rested against her shoulder, looking up through his eyelashes and intensely watching her eyes gently flutter. His heart skipped a beat when her eyes slowly fluttered open, her eyes slowly darting around the room until their eyes met.
"Thank god" He sighed and lent up to press a kiss on her forehead.
"i'm fine" She smiled sleepily.
"you almost died, you're not fine"
"i'm sorry" She smiled sadly.
"Theres nothing to be sorry for. Now, get some rest so you can go home earlier, i know how much you hate hospitals" Jake insisted as he gently glided his thumb against her cheek bones. She sighed happily and within seconds, she was fast asleep again. He smiled fondly at her and pressed a chaste kiss to her cheek before he sat back in the chair and watched her sleep peacefully.
