Song: Blood In The Cut by K.Flay
Harry was desperate. He screwed up bad, and this was his punishment. He hasn't seen Louis in over a month, it was well into December and Los Angeles has been under scattered rainfall. Harry's life was a dull bore, and the highlight of his day is when he gets a cookie from a local bakery by his flat.
Sure, he has texted Louis but now, he doesn't receive a reply, not even a threat. Every time he calls the Donna, it goes to voicemail. Harry dreaded being the clingy one in a relationship but he was craving Louis' attention. He even attempted to contact Zayn again, though the man wasn't as kind as last time. Possibly because he caught wind of Louis and Harry's falling out and didn't have any sympathy to offer. Every time Harry stood outside the gates of the La Puissance residence, he was threatened by someone with a gun or he was forcibly removed by Zayn. The man was a lot stronger than he looked, Harry later learned, but he didn't give up, even though every compass pointed to doing so.
It seemed so out of reach. Harry's fingertips keep drifting further and further away from Louis, and Harry is left stranded at sea to be devoured by the ocean's creatures. Did Harry have what it takes to be Louis' partner in the Mafia world, a Don? Louis was danger clad in latex and jewels, he walked with self-assurance and power, and there was a dark cloud masking him. That should make Harry run for the hills but his feet were trapped in cement.
Did Harry see himself sitting next to Louis in his dark office while they had meetings about illegal drug and weapon shipments and people begging for loans? Could he actively extort people and possibly torture someone until they died? Could he even kill people without remorse? The worst part of it all was that Harry didn't know. It wasn't a definite no anymore, it was an 'I don't know'. Harry was losing touch with himself, and he was letting it happen.
Harry learns quite a lot as he continues working on the case. He learns more than Louis told him, which was barely anything. This was another way of Harry coping with the sudden loneliness that surrounded him. He was gaining knowledge about the mafia without Louis and he felt particularly proud. La Puissance wasn't only in Los Angeles, they were in Paris and Italy, next to Louis' cousins who ruled their own mafia, Medusa. So Harry started with researching Medusa.
The twins weren't anywhere in the database, as expected. They easily hid their identities, much like Louis did before he was caught. Though, after looking at different mafia cases from the past, Harry feels his brain throb from the amount of information hurled at him. There was a strict structure of a mafia. Louis was the boss though traditionally, he would be addressed as Don and not Donna, and definitely not La Reine. He fucking ran shit. Harry couldn't fathom the magnitude of his control, his skills and tactics that brought in all the money. Louis owned Los Angeles, Paris, and Venice, he paid the government and was partners with every corrupt official and politician, he had the ability to take over any country he pleased, it was just a matter of when.
Beneath Louis was his consigliere, Zayn. He was the advisor among the mafia. Harry can see the connections between his hard exterior that stemmed from his duty to make decisions regardless of vendettas or pleasure or an individual's feelings. Louis must trust Zayn more than anyone. After going deeper into their relationship dynamic and Zayn's stone-cold character that resembles Louis', Harry would say that Zayn was also an underboss. Zayn was Louis' second in command and he operated the largest and most intense section of La Puissance, the death dealers. The ones who can kill Harry or anyone and make it look like they never existed. That alone was a nightmare.
Capos were ultimately a new thing to Harry. They were a group of selected members who lead their very own sections of the family, as several blocks of Los Angeles were controlled by one person, and the next couple of blocks were managed by another. In a way, this kept the organization in the mafia. Which left the Don, in this case, Donna, to handle the bigger issues and overlook everyone's activity.
