God, am I in the clear yet? I groaned to myself rubbing my arms. The dried mud flaking as I did so revealing my skin to the night air even more. Night had fallen on the forest and it was peaceful, to say the least. The rapid footsteps had stopped and I assumed the wolves either tuned back, or they were going to resume in the morning. Maybe they had given up on me altogether? What was one female anyways? They have hundreds back there.

I made myself comfortable taking a rest against a fallen tree. Shocked that they hadn't caught up to me yet I grinned through my labored breathing. I must have been running for hours, trying to get a grasp of time I sat. My stomach rumbled but there was nothing I could do about that. We had lunch and then after I ran, it was summer so it got dark later. With the above being true, It must be nearly 10-11 pm as dark as it is.  I needed to keep pushing as far as I could if they were taking a break I could gain miles on them. Catching my breath I set off again.

Maybe a burger would drop from the sky?

I decided it in my best interest to walk this time instead of run. It was pitch black outside and the last thing I needed was to trip or break something. This would slow me down and make a lot of noise. I needed to make sure I wasn't seen or heard.
