Night five. Steve took a deep breath, lingering at the door for as long as possible. After what he’d done last night, what would they do? Pretend it never happened, or bet the living shit out of him as a lesson? Maybe, seeing as it was his last day, they’d just kill him, agonisingly slowly. Steve gulped and pushed the door open slowly. He could leave, just run away! Get a new house, new job, start over. Somehow, he knew that wasn’t going to happen. They would find him before he could pack and leave, and if he didn’t pack he would have nothing. Besides, if he didn’t pay off the rent, he would become an outlaw. Steve didn’t fancy any of the other options, so just decided to take his first step inside. Then another, and one more after that. He plopped himself into the office chair, knowing in his heart he’d just sealed his own fate. Death, that is. He glanced at the torch and iPad, but knew he wouldn’t be needing them. The animatronics had the upper hand, they could kill him whenever they wanted. The clock struck midnight. Instantly, the power went out, leaving Steve in total darkness. Is this really how I want to go out? Sitting on my ass like a useless fatboy? No! Steve decided. He snatched up the torch and stalked down the hallway. I ain’t that easy, he told the animatronics silently.
“What do you mean it’s empty?”
“The night watchman... he’s not there!” Bonnie elaborated. Freddy rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
“He must have left... that’s against the rules.”
“So’s taking out the lights,” Bonnie pointed out.
“Fetch the old animatronics, then get Old Freddy to hack into the cameras like he used to do at the old place. We’ll find him in no time if we use his own devices against him.” Bonnie nodded.
“I’ll tell him to use the link to keep us in the loop.” Bonnie rushed off. The link he was referring to was the network that all the animatronics communicated on. Any animatronic could access it as long as they had the right computer as their brain. However, this came at a disadvantage because you can’t move while connected to this. In fact, it takes about five minutes to warm up again. Golden Freddy used this all the time, and because he couldn’t move in the first place, he didn’t get disadvantaged by this. And because the animatronics’ computers had parts of a human brain downloaded into them, their link’s frequency was very very similar to that of a human, so it didn’t take long for Goldie to find a way to link them too. Thought the link was considerably less strong, the images were jumbled and unclear, and it was hard to control what you were sending. Freddy hummed to himself as he waited for the update.
“And why don’t I get to join in? Are you even going to bother guarding me while I am immobilised?” Old Freddy demanded. Bonnie shrugged.
“Maybe I’ll send the Old Bonnie for you. He’s so ugly he’ll scare the guy away before he can get close.” Old Freddy snarled at the cocky new animatronic. Bonnie became engrossed himself with his fingernails, more concerned about the snide, casual look than his non-existent, clean fingernails themselves. He wandered away back towards where Freddy 2.0 was waiting. “Oh, and, if we’re not patched in in one minute, we’ll have to deactivate you. Remember, we outnumber you,” Bonnie reminded him. Old Freddy growled at the rapidly disappearing figure.
“Don’t know ‘bout you, but that guy seems like an ass to me.” Freddy whirled around. The night watchman was standing there, leaning against the doorway with his arms folded.
“You have some nerve, showing up here. You do know you’ll never get away. The new Chica is guarding the door.”
“And you do know that the new animatronics will never stop treating you badly.”
“They let us roam around at night. They let us live, instead of destroying us like they’re supposed to.”
“Oh, they allowed you to live, did they? They allowed you to have freedom? How very kind of them.” The human’s voice was dripping with sarcasm. Freddy glared at him, not believing that he hadn’t murdered it yet.
“What do you propose we do? You heard him: they outnumber us.” The human raised an eyebrow at him.
“So? Are you saying that they’re just as strong as you? Are you saying that you think their over-dose of make-up on their face is sufficient to take a punch? Are you saying that you enjoy being allowed to live?”
“No,” Freddy snarled. If the human was trying to get him worked up, it was working.
“Then we propose that we fight them.” Freddy narrowed his eyes, about to ask who ‘we’ was. Foxy stepped out of the shadows behind him.
“I should have known,” Freddy muttered. Foxy looked a little ashamed of herself, but didn’t speak up. She also didn’t meet Freddy’s steely gaze.
“You have a problem with Foxy being my friend? Because if you do, I don’t know how we’re going to get along when I fight alongside you.” Freddy cocked his head.
“When you what?”
“Fight. Alongside you. Let’s be honest: I’m doing this more for my good than yours, but we share a common goal, and it would be better if we work together.” Freddy nodded.
“That is... respectable. I will gather everyone else.”
“Good,” Steve murmured, rubbing his hands together. “Let the rebellion begin.”
