"Turn the fuck up, nigga fuck this school. We outta here," I yelled ecstatically.I said that but I didn't really feel like that, I loved this school and it loved me back. GLD High, it's like it has a ring to it. It's like music to my ears. I had been counting down to the last day of school since the beginning of the semester. This wasn't a regular school year. This was my senior year, the last year of high school. The last time I'll see a lot of people I was cool with. The last time I could skip class and still get an "A". The last time the teachers would let me do anything I wanted to. The last time a whole school would love me. The last time I could pull a fire alarm just to talk to Deuce about random shit. The last time I could go to All 3 lunches and talk to any of the girls I wanted to. I didn't say sneak in all 3 lunches because I didn't have to. See, I play Baseball, get good grades, and I'm not a bad looking guy by any means. "I bet I could have you" and I bet I could take his Bitch. Anyway, everybody loves me. I mean..... I'm me. The "white" teachers love me because I'm a great short stop with a mega arm and quick feet. The black teachers love me because I'm a stand up guy and have exemplary grades. They say I will be a great role model and an upstanding citizen for the black community.
Whatever. All the girls love me. They say I make them laugh. Some of them are cute and some of them not so much. But that was fine with me. If she was cool, it was cool. Plus I wasn't trying make none of them my girl anyway. I just like laughing and making other people laugh. Not to toot my own horn. But I have a tremendous personality and an infectious smile. Besides, I had a future to think about and couldn't get caught up in the riff raff. I've had offers since my sophomore year for baseball and some for academics. After going through all the letters, weighing my options, and trying to put myself in the best position for a brighter future. I decided to go to Florida and become a Gator. And it didn't hurt that it was Florida either. Sun, baseball, and girls. Ahhhhh Heaven on Earth.
Tomorrow is graduation. "The first day of the beginning of the rest of your life" that's what all the teachers emphatically yell at you when talking about the big day. But I never pay attention it's just another day, I ain't never changing. I'm Kea'onn Kenard and I'm gone stay Kea'onn Kenard.
I gotta go see Coach Ping before I leave. Coach Ping was my Baseball Coach. He has did so much for me on and off the diamond. I'm not talking about material stuff. I'm talking bout real stuff like talks and advice. Now that I think about it, I never knew if Ping was his first name or his last, I never actually asked and no one else did either. Lol... I guess it is something we will never know. He was a big guy, kinda short with a rocket arm and incredible ball skills. He was an awesome coach but I heard he was an even better pitcher when he played. As we got finished talking and hugging and saying our good byes, my phone rung."Where the fuck you at bro??" Deuce's voice came blasting through my phone speaker as he asked excitedly.
"Nigga where the fuck you at? I'm just now leaving GLD, was talking to Coach," I responded.
"Man fuck that school. It's over. I hated that mufucka anyway," Deuce said angrily.
"Yea well that's the difference between me and you. They love me," I responded.
"Yea Nigga that's because you a Superstar"
"Nigga you are too."
"But you play baseball."
Ok and you play football. "
"Jus hurry up Nigga, "Deuce said and then hung up.
Deuce was actually my cousin, but more like my brother. He was also my best friend for as long as I can remember. We were 3months apart in age but we were inseparable. The family has called him Duece for as long as I remember. We called him Deuce because everybody said he was like a second coming of his dad. It stuck and everyone has called him that ever since. Only close family and friends know his real name, and for the people that don't they wouldn't be able to pronounce it, and spelling it was out the window.
"Wud up Bro" I asked Deuce as I finally pulled up.
"Chillin bout to get this 2k popping""Aww shit you know I'm on that" I said as we both walked in, me in front, Duece right behind me.
"Damn boy do you ever go home" I said jokingly to Meko.
Meko never went home, like seriously we been knowing him for 3year and we still really don't know where he lives.
"What we doing tonight?" Meko said.
"We ain't doing nothing, we gone get ready for graduation tomorrow. I don't know what you doing. "I replied.
"Nigga I'm going to this party tonight." Deuce interrupted. "Plus its Tonya's party, I know you wanna go, I can't believe you haven't fucked her yet anyway nigga. What's it been like 10years?"
"What you going home for, jus call Auntie and tell her we'll be home late. She doesn't care as long as we together, its summer time let loose for once K.O."
