Zefphani was a little girl from Jamaica. Zefphani had the slightest clue, about their financial situation, but they were poor. They were poorer than poor. Zefphani's mom always tries to make life easier for her, but she knew for Zefphani to really be what she knows she can, she had to get her to America. She knew for Zefphani to make a good life for herself she had to work 3x as hard as everyone else.
"I'm not gone talk to you like you a little girl, because you're not, you a old soul in a little girl's body." Zefphani's mother would always say.
You have to learn every day, nothing more important in your life than your studies and your books, you a Poor, Black, Girl, the odds are stacked against you Zefphi," her mom said.
She's the only person that ever called her that. Zefphani's dad was never around. Her mom would teach her all day and work all night. Zefphani never had a consistent male figure in her life. Zefphani had been through a lot in her life, stuff that a little girl should never have to go through. Because of these horrific interactions with the opposite sex, she doesn't trust them, and feel like she can never be truly loved or accepted by a man. Zefphani kept this a secret, even from her mother. She felt the best revenge would be to become an intelligent, independent, strong, courageous woman. She worked really hard in school, and outperformed all of her classmates at every level. She entered into a program for incoming high schoolers and won a chance to attend high school in America with an option to continue her education there. She has blossomed since she came to the States. She recently applied and was accepted to the University of Florida State, on an academic scholarship, and will join their magnificent Microbiology Program.
