Mr Lewis assembled the guys into the gym and shouted to the top of his lungs,"If I call your name, that means that you've made the team.Roger,Mark,Timothy,Malachi, and lastly Jason.Congratulations guys you'll get your uniforms this evening and your first play off will be next Monday."Sam then plead to Mr.lewis,"Sir but I worked and trained hard just like you told me to and plus I was more swift than all these guys." The other guys who've made it ran out of the gym cheering in glee.
Mr.Lewis whispered to Sam,"Sam there's just something I been meaning to tell you,I don't really like you and I just don't want you on my team and I never did."
Sam was in absolute disbelief at the discouraging words that spewed out of his mouth.Coach Lewis was a man that he once looked up to but not anymore.
Instead of Sam arguing he respectfully said, "Your horrific words have given me the determination that I needed,so thank you." Sam then walked away. Mr. Lewis was mimicking what Sam had said and was laughing to himself.
Sam was heart broken,he left school that day feeling as if the world was on his shoulders. His family disowned him at just 17 years old and now he's homeless and his dreams are looking a bit unsure to him.
Driving home from school that evening he couldn't help to over hear a street preacher in the distance ahead. "God can turn your test into a testimony, but you need to keep on keeping on.People will fail you but Jesus will love you unconditionally.Your situation is temporary, don't give up and give God all your burdens he'll see you through, just believe." These were the words from the preacher he needed to hear.
Sam stopped by a nearby mart and he purchased a small bible for $2dollars.He began to now focus more on God and believed that he'll see him through one day.
One of his favourite bible verses is psalm 27:10 "When my father and mother forsake me then the Lord will take care of me." There was a nearby church he later started to attend ,and he truly felt accepted there.
Two weeks had passed by and Sam was still living in the shelter ,but what he gained was great faith in God and optimism towards the future.God didn't say that the weapons wouldn't form,he said it wouldn't prosper.Sam had changed his mindset to a stronger one and he was ready to overcome the trials and testing that has been thrown at him.
Sam sat in his vehicle one evening and he had no money for gas,so he just turned on the radio and listened music.
He parked his vehicle on the opposite side of the shelter underneath a palm tree and he just sat their to rest.Minutes later there was an advertisement on the radio station that caught his attention. The announcer said, "Good after noon football fans,The Orchard Eagles Football team will be having their first tryout right here in New York city.If you think that you have what it takes then here's an opportunity of a lifetime! Showcase your skills and be apart of this well known team. This Friday at 4pm sharp,be there and don't miss it." Sam eyes lit up like a child opening a birthday present.
