“I don’t think that the human world is ready. They have barely matured over the years, they are still slaughtering each other,” said a male voice though it sounded distant and I couldn’t be certain as to whether what I had heard was correct or not.

“They have matured plenty,” replied a second male.

“Listen to me, as soon as they are aware of our existence, they will no longer be slaughtering each other. Instead they will turn their attention to us,” replied the first male voice. I stirred slightly before the drugs pulled me back into the world of dreams.

To me, it felt as though a few minutes had passed but it must have been much longer than that because when I awoke, my stomach grumbled angrily and my throat felt so dry that every time I swallowed it felt almost like I was attempting to swallow sandpaper.

I opened my eyes to see a young woman sat in the corner with hair a light shade of auburn, her chocolate brown eyes watched me with caution and fear. Slowly, I sat up and looked to her, unable to make any sense as to what was happening.

“Are you okay?” I asked as I pulled my weak body out of bed and attempted to approach her when I collapsed.

“Don’t hurt me!” The young girl begged.

“Do I look as though I’m in any state to stand nevermind hurt someone?” I asked, sarcasm heavy and clear in my voice when I realised that she was genuinely afraid of me though I was unsure as to why. “Look, I’m not going to hurt you, what would make you think that?” I continued as I attempted to gain closer to her only for her to flinch away,

“You’re one of them!” She spat.

“What are you talking about?” I asked as I reached for her a second time, “Just calm down, you’re not thinking straight”

“Don’t touch me, demon!” Shouted the girl in protest but it was little use, my hand still touched hers.

“Just calm down,” I continued to comfort when I saw something that appeared almost impossible. I watched as what looked like her soul, seemed to rush from her body at an incredible speed and enter mine.

Swiftly, I pulled my hand away from hers and immediately it stopped. For some unknown reason, I no longer felt hungry or thirsty. Instead, I felt empowered.

“Demon!” She screamed hysterically.

“Look, we need to get the hell out of here. I don’t know what they’ve done to me but I am not a demon,” I muttered quietly as the words rushed from my throat, almost tripping over one another. “I need you to calm down and think straight because I don’t want to wait around and see what else they do to me whilst I’m unconscious,”

The young woman hesitated for a brief moment before she quickly nodded and I glanced to the door.

“Come on,” I muttered before I approached it and attempted to open the only entrance to the pure white room.

Locked? Really? I thought, Damn it Riley! Of course it would be locked, they want to keep you here. Do experiments and Goddess knows what else! Come on Riley! Think!

Hastily, I glanced around the room, the sweet aroma of lemons and lavender invaded my nose as I searched for any way of escape when I noticed the large mirror that seemed to cover most of the wall behind the hospital bed. Quickly, I approached it before the young woman spoke,

“It’s a window,”

“They’ve been watching all this?” I questioned, feeling slightly disturbed before I caught sight of a flashing red light in the corner of my eye, I turned my head and my gaze fell upon the camera in the corner of the room.
