"Wait, Juliet! Make sure you grab your bookbag!" yelled Mimi, running her bag to her sister.
"I know, Sissy. Calm down, geez..." sighed Juliet.
"I'm sorry. It's just...it's your first day and I'm excited for you." apologized Mimi.
"Thanks." sarcastically replied Juliet.
"Mimiiii!" yelled a voice from up stairs.
"What is it, Bugz?" yelled Mimi.
"Where's my sockkkk?"
Juliet began to snicker.
"Are you laughing at me, Juliet?" questioned Bugz, hearing her from upstairs.
"Did you leave it in the bathroom?" asked Mimi.
"I know I'm in fourth grade, but that doesn't mean I'm stupid. Of course I didn't leave it in the bathroom!" scoffed Bugz.
"You can't even find your own sock. Sounds like stupid to me.." said Juliet under her breath.
Footsteps came runnning down the stairs. Soon a one-sock wearing, halfway dressed, Bugz, was standing at the bottom stair.
"How are you gonna call me stupid when you're only five!?" argued Bugz, directing it towards Juliet.
"Five years smarter than you." muttered Juliet, under her breath.
"Alright, you two. Knock it off." yelled Mimi, as she pulled up the bookbag strap hanging off Bugz's shoulder.
"I have your sock right here." said Mimi, as she handed it to her.
"Now we are ready for school!" smiled Bugz, as she put on her shoes.
"Alright, remember to hold your sister's hand when you go out and wait for the bus." instructed Mimi.
Bugz nodded and looked for Juliet, but she couldn't find her. Both Mimi and Bugz began to panic as they searched for their missing five-year old sister.
"Juliet, where are you??" shouted Mimi frantically.
She heard a little girl's voice coming from outside and turned her head to see a little girl walking down the road and get hit by a car, then mauled by a bear, then a van drove up and three gangsters got out of the car with guns and shot the girl then drove off.
"Juliet!" cried Mimi, running up to the girl, as Bugz followed.
She turned the girl over and was shocked at what she saw. It wasn't Juliet!
"What the heck?" questioned Mimi, confused.
"Please help me." pleaded the girl, near death.
"Sorry. We thought you were someone else.." apologized Mimi, as she slowly walked away from the girl.
Bugz stood there staring at her.
"Call 911." barely said the girl.
Mimi noticed her sister wasn't behind her and went over and grabbed her hand.
"Come along, Bugz. We don't talk to strangers, remember?"
They continued to walk back towards their house, unaware that behind them the van drove back up and abducted the little girl.
"If that wasn't Juliet, then where is she?" questioned Mimi, as they re-entered their house.
Bugz pointed across the street and Mimi noticed that Juliet was at the stop sign waiting for the bus, by herself.
"You knew she was there all along??" exclaimed Mimi.
Bugz just shot her a toothy grin and ran across the street to wait for the bus with her sister.
"Mimi said you're supposed to hold my hand!" argued Juliet, as she kept trying to attempt to grab her sister's hand.
"No way, loser. I can't have the other kids on the bus see me holding hands with a pre-schooler. And by the way, don't sit by me on the bus. Or talk to me. Got it?" retorted Bugz.
"You're mean!" pouted Juliet.
"Tough luck."
The bus pulled up and they both got on. Bugz sat with one of her friends, leaving Juliet to find a seat alone.
"You can sit by me!" exclaimed an unfamiliar voice in the backseat.
Juliet followed the voice and was met by a brunette-haired boy with emerald green eyes. She anxiously took a seat and held her lunchbox tight.
"Hi, I'm Romeo." introduced the boy.
"J-Juliet."
"You must be new because I haven't seen you around."
"I-it's m-my first day of school."
"I remember my first day of school. It was alot like your's. I was shy. I didn't know anybody. Plus I forgot my lunch on the bus because I was so scared. But now I'm starting kindergarten and I'm not scared anymore. You kinda get the hang of it after a while." explained Romeo, as he tried to calm her nerves.
"Really?" questioned Juliet, in disbelief.
"Yeah. Of course. Don't worry. I'll be your friend. I'd hate to see someone go through the same thing I did." reassured him.
Juliet agreed and was no longer worried about her first day. Eventually the bus dropped her off and she managed to find her way to class, after walking into nearly 6 wrong classes. All day she only had one thing on her mind, getting back on the bus that afternoon to talk to Romeo.
Once the bell rang to dismiss school, she eagerly ran to the buses, avoiding all of the rules her teacher had clearly stated about waiting for an adult to walk you to the bus. After several minutes of looking, she finally found the bus that looked the most familiar to her and got on it. Towards the back was Romeo's face, greeting her with a warm smile. She ran to take a seat and greeted her friend as well.
"I got something for you," he spoke up, as he held up two heart-shaped necklaces.
"This one's for you," he handed her one.
"And this one's for me."
"Thank you! I love it!" squealed Juliet, as she observed her necklace.
It was pink and had the word 'friends' carved in it.
"I made it pink because that's a girl color and mine's blue because it's for boys. See it says 'best'," he showed her.
"Whenever we put them together, it says 'best friends'."
"My favorite color is blue." confessed Juliet.
"But this is mine."
"But I want ittt!"
"Geez, fine! Mama always told me how complicated girls were." muttered Romeo, as he traded his necklace.
Juliet cheered with joy and hugged him.
"Best friends!" she exclaimed, as he wrapped his arms around her.
"Forever."
