Chapter Fourteen
My eyes flickered open to be greeted by my mother sitting by my side, squeezing my hand.
“Hello darling” She whispered as I woke up. I smiled in return. I raised my back up the frame of the bed and cushioned it with a pillow.
“Good morning” I replied.
“I’m so sorry about yesterday,” Mum quickly blurted out “I didn’t mean to come off like that. It’s just that… It’s what mother’s do. I worry about you and I hope you would want me to. This is how I am Abby, take it or leave it.”“It’s okay mum. I’ll keep you,” I laughed and she laughed along with me.
“Father left town” She frowned after the laughing died down.“W-What do you mean?”
“He had enough of me. He just left. What an ass, leaving you here especially. That is what really hurt me you know”
“I understand mum. It’s hard but we have each other” I replied trying to be positive about the situation. I was upset. Dad was nice and I loved him a lot but he left me and that made me question who he really was all this time.
Mother stayed for a while. We talked about things and I could tell she was trying her hardest to avoid the subject to how I got here in this very hospital bed. I was gad she didn’t question me about it. I couldn’t have been bothered answering it.
After an hour of talking mum left and I was alone, thankfully. I turned on the hospital TV and started watching daytime TV. It was boring but I was happy. Comfortable. By myself for once in a while.
Although, before I could think it could get any better Jake walked in and I sighed under my breath. I tried to act excited so I smiled at his presence.
“Hey Abby, how are you?” He asked as he leaned over my bed and we hugged.
He took a seat on the chair next to my bed.
“Yeah, I’m good. Sorry about everything yesterday it’s just this…” I started to whisper so only Jake could hear me “Prophecy that is making me do this. I would never want to kill you.”“I understand” Jake laughed, “I only got out of interrogation now. I didn’t tell them you had prophecy, don’t worry. I just said you were tired and was on a drug that made you see things. Don’t worry though, they can’t charge you. I told them you had a legal amount.”
I became uneasy then relaxed. Drugs were something that I was forbidden from. Not only from mum but also from Father Peter. He definitely wouldn’t be happy if he found out if I was taking illicit drugs of any form or size.
“Oh, okay” I replied a little unsure of what he told me. I accepted it; there was nothing I could do to change what he said to the police.“How have you been coping?”
“Yeah, okay I guess. I don’t think the pain is on my body, I think it is inside of my body. Prophecy is the real pain here, nothing else,” I stated and Jake went quiet. It took him a while to sink in what I said but I think he understood what I said. He nodded his head in reply. I debated with myself to whether I should tell Jake about what I dreamed about. I wanted too but I didn’t want to at the same time.
What do I do?
No.
Don’t tell him.
“Jake, eh. I don’t want to come across as rude but I really just want some time with myself” I asked and Jake looked a little puzzled at first.
“What do you mean?” He asked with confusion.
“Like, I want you to go…” I managed to bring the words out of my mouth. I was conscious to whether it sounded mean and obscured.
