Before 30. Januar 1933:
Before the NSDAP and the Third Reich existed, the swastika actually symbolized good luck. It actually meant "well being" in ancient Sanskrit for thousand of years.
By the beginning of the 1900's, there was a huge fad of the swastika as a good luck symbol. It was even used in commercials in America!

But since there is a lot of big problems with this symbol today, I'm not going to include it here on the flag and the coat of arms for very good reasons.
30. Januar 1933 On this day, Adolf Hitler became chancellor under President Hindenburg.

2. August 1934 President Paul von Hindenburg died from lung cancer at age 86 in Neudeck in Germany.
On the same day, Adolf Hitler became the Führer and established the Third Reich.
