Winter.
I know most people don't. They complain that it's too cold and dreary. Many also hate the fact that it snows, and less sun means seasonal depression.
I embrace winter. Winter means hot chocolate, cozy blankets and fuzzy socks! It also means winter break and Christmas!
I like Christmas--shocker, I know! But, my mom always has made it a special time for my sister and I; she cooks a yummy meal, and we watch christmas movies whilst chugging down her homemade hot chocolate mix.
She always somehow provides wonderful gifts for us. I know she works extra hours at the hospital during this time just so we can have a nice Christmas.
I usually work at the diner down the street during this time, so I have some cash to get gifts for her and Rue. The rest I usually save up for college--if I even get accepted into one.
"Noa! Do you have extra mittens for me? My pair from last year are lost." I turn my head from our small window. It's snowing outside, and I can't help but to be entranced by it.
I scrounge around my drawers in our shared dresser. I find my pair but can't find my spare pair. I know I don't have much time to look for them as we have to get to school.
"Here. Take these." I give her my black pair. She hesitates before grabbing them from me.
"A-are you sure? Aren't these your good ones?" Rue asks, and I only shrug in response. "Okay...well um thank you!"
"Yeah yeah. Let's get going. I have something to do before class." I throw my backpack over my shoulder, exiting our room and making my way towards our front door.
"Gotta give Rhett a smooch or something?" Rue gives me a smirk, already standing next to me as she asks.
I roll my eyes, opening the door and ushering her out of our small apartment.
Closing door, I say, "he wishes. No, I gotta talk to my advisor about scholarship due dates." Once the door is locked, Rue and I rush down the stairs and out onto the sidewalk. It's quite chilly out, so I shove my hands in my coat pockets.
After a couple minutes of walking in silence, aside from the traffic noises, Rue speaks up again.
"Noa?"
I glance over at her. "Yeah?"
"Do you love Rhett?" I freeze in my tracks at her question.
Do I love Rhett? That's something I never thought of before.
I can't even comprehend what my feelings are for him. I like his presence, yeah. I also like kissing him: he's good at that. I also like talking with him, and I trust him. I honestly trust that he hasn't yet spilled out my horrible secrets to anyone yet. I trust him to drive me around: I don't trust anyone else though.
