Under the Influence

Chapter 14

Noel went to his first interview and sat down. They asked him the usual questions and he answered. He waited until the right moment to mention Benjamin and it came.

"Do you regret never having any kids?" The interviewer asked.

Noel took a deep breath and answered.

"I actually do have a son."

The interviewer looked surprised then a little confused.

"I did research on you and i didn't see anywhere that you had a son."

"Well you see, I just met him a couple weeks ago, but he's great."

"And who is the mother?"

"Uh, shes a good friend of mine. We kinda dated for a bit."

"So how old is your son?"

"He is 3."

"But didn't you only get divorced last year?"

Noel laughed nervously.

"Yes."

"So when you say you dated the mother, it was an affair? "

"Yes, but I don't want to talk about that. It was a long time ago."

"Ok."

The interviewer asked a few more questions then the interview was done. Noel sat and waited for his next interview. He felt relieved to talk about Benjamin. He missed him and Val and wished he could see them before they left. After a few more minutes the second interviewer arrived. He asked many of the same questions and Noel gave the same answers. Then the interviewer asked, "There is a rumor going around that you fathered a love child while you were still married to your wife. Any truth to that?"

Noel hesitated then nodded.

"It is true, yes."

"Oh ok. I thought you were going to say it was just a ridiculous rumor, but it is true?"

"It is true. I do have a son. He is 3 years old, his name is Benjamin and he fuckin' looks just like me. He's a good little lad."

"So you see him and are a part of his life?"

"I met him for the first time recently, but I plan to be in his life from now on. For sure."

"And what does your girlfriend think?"

"Uh I haven't really talked about it much with her to be honest. She had to fly home for work so I haven't really got the chance to really talk to her yet. But she is flying in tonight to see the show so we can talk about it then."

"But she knows about your son?"

"Yes."

"Do you think you will ever marry again?"

"Uh not in the near future, no. I've only been with her for a few months. We've never talked about marriage, ever."

"Ok. That is all the questions I have for you. Thanks. "

"Thanks."

Noel walked back to his bus and called Val.

"Hey."

"Did you already leave?"

"Yeah we left about thirty minutes ago."

"I miss you."

"Aww. I miss you too. How were the interviews?"

"They were fine. I talked about Benjamin a little."
