Val Peters has been writing songs and performing at small clubs for the past ten years. She has a wild streak and loves her life on the road, but a chance meeting will soon change her life in ways she never imagined.
Over the next few weeks, Noel concentrated on the shows and spent most of his down time sleeping or playing his guitar. He couldn't wait to see Val and Benjamin again. Meanwhile, Val was trying her hardest to forget about Noel. She figured since she hadn't heard from him that he was staying with Laura and their baby. She missed him so much and wanted to call him just to hear his voice, but she knew it was better to just try to forget about him. There are plenty of single moms out there. I've been doing it since Benjamin was born and maybe one day I will find Mr. Right. She told herself. She did ok during the day, but when she was alone in bed at night, more often than not, she cried herself to sleep. Noel did his last show and flew immediatley to Atlanta to see Val and Benjamin. He got a hotel and relaxed for a day and thought about everything. The next morning he took a long hot shower then got dressed and called a taxi to take him to Val's house. Val had just finished cleaning up after breakfast and sat down on the couch to watch tv with Benjamin when there was a knock at the door. She figured it was someone trying to sell her something and didn't answer. There was another knock. She sighed and got up to answer the door. She opened the door and there stood Noel. Her heart started beating fast. "What are you doing here?" Noel didnt say anything. He got down on one knee and reached into his pocket. Val looked at him confused. "What are you doing?" "Val. I love you. I've loved you since the day we met and I want to be with you forever. Will you marry me?" Val was shocked. She couldn't believe this was happening. She couldn't find her voice to speak so she just stared at him. He held up a diamond ring. She wanted to scream yes, but she didnt. Finally she was able to speak. "I dont know." she said slowly. Noel looked dissapointed and stood up. "Please Val. We love each other. I've never loved a woman the way I love you." "I do love you Noel, but.." "But what?" He took a step closer and took her hands in his. "Let me be here for you and Benjamin." "I don't know what to say." her eyes filled with tears. "Say yes." he said gently. She looked into his eyes and decided in that moment to let go of the doubt and fear. "Yes." "Yes?" "Yes." She smiled. He gently pushed the ring onto her finger then pulled her into him and hugged her tight. "I love you so much. I dont ever want to be apart from you again." "I love you too." He pulled back and looked at her then kissed her. "I'm not goin anywhere, ok?" "What about Laura and the baby?" "There is no baby." "What?" "She took a test and it was negative. I told her I was in love with you and she left." Val smiled. She felt kinda bad about it but was happy to finally have Noel to herself. "Come in." she stepped aside and he walked into the house. Benjamin saw him and a huge grin spread across his little face. "Noel." he shouted. Noel laughed and picked him up. "You remember me, lad?" He hugged him and sat on the couch, placing Benjamin on his knee. "I'm your dad Benjamin. You can call me daddy. "Daddy!" Benjamin smiled. Noel laughed and looked up at Val. She smiled at him and knew everything was going to be ok.
Noel and Val were married six months later in London. They both continued making music and they lived happily with Benjamin. Noel's fears about becoming a father had disappeared and he loved being a dad. Benjamin made him laugh every day and he was often seen out and about with his son.
