Claire seat was comfortable, at least, she thought it was, until she discovered that her seatmate was fond of rock and roll music and would snores loudly, even her practiced apathy cannot tolerate such volume of both the snoring and the music. Since the trip was rather long she saw stop overs as an Elysium whereas she could finally get some peace.
The bus driver called and so, she hurried to ride the bus and the man (her seatmate) was already seated and for the first time she saw his whole face without his sleeping mask. The man had strong grey eyes that even she cannot stare at, his disheveled brunet hair lay lazily down on his forehead to his nape and his face has slight sign of beard. A perfect epitome of ragged-handsome man.
When he looked up and saw her he quickly smiled but she did not returned it for she did not know him and was too annoyed by the fact that he did not seem to mind that he was a bother for every passenger because of the noise he created earlier.
When she sat down he quickly began a conversation thinking she too, was a foreigner and maybe from the same country. Even though she did not reciprocate his smile which by the why he thought would flush women out, he still hoped to have a little chat with her.
"Hi" he beamed. She looked at him with her light hazelnut eyes, but, something about those eyes bothered him.
She just nodded as sign of acknowledgement. she was too tired to have a conversation with the strange man who's the reason of her exhaustion.
"You're clearly not from here, where are you from?" he attempted yet another chat still hoping to get a reply. And he did, not words but a very irritated squint- which made him laugh a little.
"Excuse me, is there anything subliminally funny?" a tone paired with her irked squint.
"Oh, not at all it's just that you're too transparent with your emotion, not many people are like that" he said with a slightly raised eyebrow. At least she talks. He thought.
"Why so smug?" she said intending to offend the stranger to leave her alone, she looked out to the window as if saying get lost. But the man did not falter he still continued the conversation which looked like it was wheezing and was ready to die.
"Me?! Smug eh- why is that?!" he said with a fake offensive tone but it was clearly just to make her speak again. She ignored him. She have met many obnoxious people to know that the way to make them stop talking to you is just to ignore them, and he did stop but only for a while when he opened a snack and offered her.
"Want some?"
"No."
"Your eyes are annoying" he said while munching. She quickly turned her head to the man
"What did you just say?"
"Your. Eyes. Looks. Like. A. dead. Fish." he emphasized every word and said it while flaunting the chips he's eating to her.
She sighed. There's no use ignoring this bastard. She thought
"How uncouth of you to say that to a person you just met." She said but the man laughed again and again she squinted her eyes. But that made her think that what this strange man is saying true, after all she is still felt empty even after she got words of encouragement from Ronnie. She just felt very indifferent.
He somehow managed to see her reaction. Her Indifference was vexing him so much, his eyebrows twitched.
"Your eyes looks like they're looking for a place to die" he was surprised to sound disgusted but that's what his feeling. She yet again did not replied, for she knew it was the truth at least she didn't have to hide it to this stranger, it gave her somewhat comfort to know she didn't have to delude anyone else; no one knows her so why bother? It wouldn't affect her either way.
"So?" now, clearly he looked angry because of her answer. He fiddled her hair and said
"Have anyone told you that you're a very despicable woman?" he then smiled kindly at her to hide the fact that he was way irritated with her.
She laughed, a very dry laugh. Which surprised him.
"Yes and she says it to me every day."
