If it wasn't for the harsh California rays beaming on her pale face and the neighbour's cat, Eunseo could've gotten an hour of extra sleep that morning.
She peered up to where the sunlight was coming in through the crack of her bedroom blinds, shielding her eyes with the back of her hand and let out a sigh. Her other hand struggled to reach her phone, which was hiding under the bed along with various chip packets and other miscellaneous items.
She hauled her herself up and leaned against the bed headpiece, yawning.
She turned her phone on and checked the time.
8:46 am.
"You woke up early." A hoarse voice chuckled.
Eunseo glanced over to her bedroom door and rolled her eyes.
"Shut up, Steph."
Stephanie had her arms folded in front of her chest as her chestnut brown locks cascaded down her drooping shoulders, her back leaned against the door frame.
"You know, a simple 'good morning' would've been nice.." She shook her head in disappointment.
She scanned the room with her beady hazel eyes and sighed.
"Your room is so messy," she took a whiff and immediately held her nose, "it stinks as well."
Eunseo threw the covers on to the other side of the bed and got up, hitting Stephanie's head on her way out.
The two exchanged munching sounds as they ate their breakfast. Nothing much interesting happened in the mornings.
Eunseo placed her dishes in the sink and headed back upstairs to wash up.
"It's your turn today." She muttered.
Stephanie grunted as she took another bite from her sandwich.
After taking a long, refreshing shower under the warm water, Eunseo dried herself and changed. She then sat on her table and attempted to focus on her english essay which was due the week after.
After what seemed forever, she fustratedly tapped her pen on the table's surface and sighed.
'If we meet unexpectedly, shall we not fall in love?'
What did that even mean?!
The whole sentence sent chills running up and down her spine.
She grunted, throwing her pen across the table and rested her head backwards, causing her to slouch.
"Eun!!" Stephanie's voice echoed throughout the house.
"What!" Eunseo answered back annoyed.
"Go buy groceries if you aren't doing anything!!" Stephanie yelled back. "We're short on chocolate and chips!"
Eunseo didn't say anything.
It was such a bother to go out but then she didn't want to stress over some stupid Shakespeare essay.
"I guess I should get some fresh air..." She got up from her chair and stretched, grabbing a grey jumper on her way out.
The cool spring breeze swayed her hair back and forth, as the grocery bags gently brushed against her legs each time she took a step.
A few steps infront of her was a small cafe that caught her attention. She stopped in her tracks and hesitated before going in.
The cafe was fairly small but she loved the cosy atmosphere.
The savoury smell of freshly brewed coffee and pastries wafted around the shop, there where people chattering and laughing.
Eunseo closed her eyes, leaning her head back and took a deep breath. It felt as if all her fatigue was going away.
"Sleepy there?" A mellow voice chuckled.
Eunseo blinked several times as she sheepishly smiled.
The voice belonged to a male, who appeared to be the same age as her. He had chestnut coloured hair and a fringe which just covered his eyebrows. His pen was pressed against his pursed lips as he stared at her with playful eyes.
For a second her heart was racing and she could feel her cheeks flaring.
"I-I was just... Admiring the atmosphere." She blurted.
The guy simply chuckled to himself and then took a memo pad out from his apron pocket.
"Would you like to order something?"
Eunseo sat there and glanced at the menu in front of her. "One peach ice tea please."
The guy wrote her order down and took the menu and he smiled at her. His eye smile and set of pearly whites seemed perfect.
Eunseo couldn't help but stare at him. She wasn't the type to fall for someone at first sight, however, he was different.
As cliché as that sounds.
Moments later, he returned with a plastic take-away cup of ice tea and carefully placed it in front of her.
"Enjoy, Sleepy head."
"T-Thanks..."
Eunseo lay with her arms and legs sprawled out on her bed.
She glanced at the alarm clock next to her.
10:57 pm
She played with her phone, scrolling through endless news feeds and pictures of other people's daily lives in order to fight her boredom.
She kept scrolling until she came across a short status.
"True love doesn't mean being inseperable; it means being seperated and nothing changes..."
She read that very sentence over and over again. It was so strange,
'true love huh...'
The image of that guy from the cafe earlier popped into her mind.
His perfect smile. The way his hair falls perfectly onto his forehead, his mellow voice...
Something about him had set a spark in her heart. She just wasn't sure what.
She tried tossing and turning but to no avail.
Who exactly was he to make her feel this way?
