Kazuya’s P.O.V
The next day I sat on my bed after Kagami and Kiyoshi picked up Kuroko and he took my phone so all I could do was lie on my bed staring at the ceiling.
I wandered the house with its two storeys and all the different rooms; I had forgotten that there were so many rooms.
It couldn’t be helped considering that without mum and dad the house had become so small; we never ventured into the other rooms as they hold the bitter memories of a life that we had all left behind.
But also of a life that I’ve been trying to leave behind; in one room on a small shelf behind a dusty glass door were some photos from our time at Teiko.
Pictures of us with our team dressed in our uniforms or in our travelling uniforms; Kise had taken a photo of the Lights and Shadows of the Teiko Generation of Miracles.
That had been my favourite photo but when Aomine left Kuroko behind; it had become my worst.
With nothing to do and it was getting cold I dressed into my Teiko travelling uniform and pulled the blanket over my head dreaming of a time that I should’ve forgotten by now.
I moved to the lounge room because I felt alone; I had absent-mindedly grabbed our photo album and I went through it.
It was funny seeing what I was like back then but then again all of us were different to what we were now; Akashi was less the dictator, Aomine was more of a brother, Atsushi was more of an older brother to me.
Kise was still the shit head he was now but I looked up to him and then there was me and Kuroko; he hadn’t changed since middle school but I had and I was still adjusting.
Back then I was reckless, optimistic and hard-headed; now I’m still reckless and optimistic but now I was less hard-headed so I could protect Kuroko as well as myself.
I had fallen asleep with the album on my lap.
My phone started ringing and I scratched my head.
“Huh?” I answered.
“You need to come to the gym” Riko explained. “We’ve got a problem”.
“Seriously?” I groaned. “I need sleep”.
“Just get over here!” Huyga shouted.
“I’m coming” I replied yawning. “I’ll be there in a sec”.
I opened the door to the gym and everyone was staring at me.
“What’s with the travelling clothes?” Riko frowned.
“I got cold” I explained as the jacket slipped down one shoulder. “And shut up… I know it’s the Teiko middle school team travelling uniform”.
“Yuya” I heard a voice whisper.
Kuroko and Kagami parted to reveal Momoi sitting soaked on a chair.
“Here, take this” I sighed giving her, her old jacket which I also absent-mindedly grabbed. “It’ll keep you warm”.
“Why do you have this?” She asked putting it on.
“You told me to keep it” I shrugged. “Now, I’m giving it back…so what am I doing here?”
“Aomine upset Momoi” Kuroko explained.
“Let me guess, it was his elbow and you asked the coach to not let him play?” I asked.
“Yes… it was his elbow again” she nodded. “Ever since your one-on-one with him, if he plays too hard his elbow gives way”.
