Samuel sighed happily, smiling as he stretched his arms and walked down the street. His smile abruptly became a grimace as he held his left shoulder.
"I told you to be careful with that. It's not gonna heal overnight," Gideon chided. "I'm still amazed you were so fast you managed to change where it hit you." Samuel shrugged as best he could, mainly moving his right shoulder.
"It still hit, and it still hurts. Anyways, where did you want to grab some lunch? It's on me today." Gideon gave him a look of surprise.
"You don't have to do that, Sam. I'm doing alright with money-"
"It's not that. I want to do something nice for you, you know? You really helped me out yesterday," Samuel smiled and patted Gideon's back. "It means a lot knowing you've always got my back."
"Well, when you put it that way... hm..." Gideon tapped his dress pants as he walked.
"Also, why are you wearing a suit today? Something special?" Gideon managed to make anything look good, but his solid grey dress pants, jacket, white dress shirt, and white-grey striped tie looked quite good.
"I like to dress professionally whenever I can. I want to make the best impression I possibly can!" Gideon answered before returning to thinking about where to eat.
"Dress professionally huh...." Samuel trailed off as he began to think as well. If he was going to be doing hero stuff he would need a costume... no! He wasn't a hero. He was just a normal guy. Just a pizza guy. He shook his head to clear his mind.
"You okay there?" Gideon asked, amused. "You look like you really need to shake it off."
"Very funny. I'm fine. Just thinking-" Samuel began to reply before he noticed something out of the corner of his eye. They were walking right passed that local pizza place from yesterday. The store was closed but that young woman was standing in the doorway. He quickly moved his gaze. Luckily his brother was inbetween him and the young woman, but she still might've noticed.
"Hey!" She called out, moving to approach them.
"Keep walking keep walking," Samuel whispered to Gideon, changing his slow walk to one more brisk.
"Why? It's rude to ignore people, especially old friend," Gideon said, stopping. Samuel froze a few steps ahead of Gideon. Old friend?
"Sam! It's me!" The young woman called out as she caught up to them. Samuel slowly turned around. The young woman had shoulder length straight orange hair. Her auburn eyes and dark eyebrows narrowed and her eyes bore into him with a knowing look. "It's me, Anya. It's been a while since we talked."
"A-A-Anya?" Samuel stammered. She had really grown up since last they spoke. "It's been a while, yeah." Then, suddenly she rammed an elbow into his gut. "Ah! Hey! What was that for?!" He bent over for a moment in surprise more than pain.
"That's for not answering my messages. It's been over four years!" Anya answered irritably.
"Oh, my bad. I broke my phone first day of school and my number changed..." Samuel rubbed his stomach as he apologized.
"Idiot. Why didn't you add my number to your new phone and tell me?"
"Oh, uh, I didn't know your number myself. It was just in my phone," Samuel scratched the back of his head in embarrassment.
"Typical. Some thongs never change," Anya sighed.
"You got that right..." Samuel thought to himself.
"You've certainly gotten fast and strong though, huh?" She asked in a knowing tone.
"Yeah, thanks! I've been working out," Samuel quickly replied, throwing on a smile. Anya smirked.
