The morning started perfectly. If I didn't have to watch my back I would have said it was a pleasant day; but I had to watch my back. I was on guard for a reason and a good one too. An hour after I sat at my desk my phone rang. I answered. "Hello"
"Denise, its Eloise"
"Eloise, fancy a call huh." I laughed. "What can I do for you today?"
"Nothing, I was just calling out of courtesy"
"Courtesy, you know you don't have to do a courtesy call to me."
"You misunderstand me." There was a long pause on the other side of the line. A pause that made me worrying. I could hear her breath. "I'm dropping my investment in your company Denise"
"WHAT, why"
"It's a business decision and I think it is for the best."
"For the best, now I know it ain't true. I have proven myself to you over and over Eloise. I made you richer that than old hag you call a husband and you call saying you pulling your cash out because it is a business decision"
"Denise, don't talk to me like that. I admit you made me independent but don't forget it was my money that gave you those fancy towers."
"Damn right it was your money and it is a million times more than what it was because of me. Don't do this Eloise; you're making a big mistake."
"Am sorry Denise but it is for the best."
"The best, the best for who exactly?"
"For me Denise. The sector isn't like it was, you know. The forecast predicts with the rising competition of small business, you won't have any more consumer came next year. Well both end up poor if we're not smart to pull out now. I'm sorry Denise but that is my final decision, you can't change it."
And with that the line went dead. She fucking hung up on me. Bitch gets a good fuck and now she knows about marketing, competition influx, commodity demand and fucking business predictions. I would have believed her if I knew it wasn't a script. The woman was as stupid as it got. She got a brain of a stupid chicken. Damn you Lawrence. Eloise was my primary investor. I had other investors but her pull out will have me begging, not to mention the result it will have on my shares if someone doesn't buy them fast. Huh, I have to give it to the man; he went for the golden goose. Smart move.
My only solution is to market the shares, maybe go open source which was bad at a time like this. I could lose this stature I worked so hard to reach. In addition, the shares were so many. Eloise owned 47% of the company's share. The other investors could maybe buy them but that was a maybe. With the luck I am having, I am sure none of them will dare because if Lawrence played his cards right, everybody in the business world knows he has an eye for my business, which also means even external investors were out. But maybe not all of them.
There was someone willing to risk it all just to fight against Lawrence. Someone with more power than him and more pissed at him than I. The question is, how really mad is he? Because he better be really mad cause I need to make sure those shares are bought before Lawrence went and advertised the news that my primary investor doesn't believe in my company anymore, which means I have less than 24 hours. Or maybe less. He left here really mad. Let's hope my hunch wins.
I picked my purse, removing my card book and sifting through the many business cards. I thought I lost it but found it. Vincent Mounch, entrepreneur extraordinaire in the fast food industry and currently also the coffee industry. The card was a bit worn for wear, which means it has been a while. Just hoped his personal number he scribbled in the back hadn't changed. I dialed the number. He picked up in the last minute. His voice coming from the other side of the line with a boom.
"Hello Vincent, its Denise from Velvet Industries"
"Yes, I remember. I wasn't expecting your call" Lie. He was expecting it, which means he had a flash and I was rolling in twos and sevens. This is not good.
"Yes, I know it's been a while. I thought I might invite you to dinner. Catch up"
"That sounds nice and a dinner does sound good."
"Good then, tonight, I know a place. The Gourme Exquis. I am sure you have heard of it. I always have a table, meet me there at sevenish."
"Sounds good."
"Okay, see you then" I hang up. If I am right Vincent knows what's going on and he will do everything to make sure I end up begging and after that, he offer me measly terms which I have to accept because of Lawrence. I need an exit plan if things go haywire.
