Gran is leaving tomorrow, so today she is taking me to the local diner for our last day together.

I am really going to hate to see Gran leave, and not just because of dad but because I am really going to miss her. She is always so happy and makes everything we do fun.

When I got up this morning Gran said that dad could fix breakfast for like the fifth time, you could tell dad was ecstatic that Gran is going home tomorrow. I on the other hand am not wanting that.

I'm not just sad that Gran is leaving, but school also starts back. This fall break has actually been bearable. When school starts back though I don't know if I will be able to handle it.

Since dad is worried about our image in this horrid town, he makes me get involved in stuff after fall break. I think it is only because at his job during the fall, they start having to work later and go out for weekends to the neighboring towns, and he doesn't want me at the house.

So when I go back to school I will have to figure out a way to pass my time. Clubs are not an option. I've already tried that. They are a year round type of thing and you have to be committed, which I can't picture myself being, with as much as I have going on with dad.

Gran and I go to a corner booth and wait for the waitress. I tell Gran that I have to use the restroom and I get up and walk to the back of the restaurant. When I get back I see Gran sitting at the booth with a man, not just a random man, but Dakota.

A smile instantly appears on my face, but quickly fades when I think of what they could be talking about. I rush over to the table and greet Dakota, "Hey." He smiles and I smile back while looking at Gran for an explanation.

"Anny, look who I bumped into, he was coming to get lunch so I offered for him to stay and eat with us." Gran says while not looking at me. I know what Gran is trying to do, she is trying to play match maker. I don't know why. There is no way he likes me that way and plus I don't even want to think about what dad would do.

"Pleasure to have you joining us." I say while sitting on the inside while Gran stood up.

"Thanks for having me." He said while his eyes stayed on me the whole time, I however couldn't look him in the eye.

I don't want to hurt him. I can't be friends with him, and I definitely don't want to let him think that we can be.

I was about to come up with a conversation to start with Gran when a waitress came, thank goodness, saved by the bell.

"What can I get you guys to drink?" a young brunette waitress asks, looking like she doesn't want to be here. Gran gets a sweat tea, and I say "Dr Pepper" at the same time Dakota does. I hear Gran chuckle next to me while my eyes are staring at a piece of hair on the waitresses uniform like it's the most interesting thing in the world. I felt Dakota's eyes on me there for a minute, but I'm sure he quit staring when I didn't look up.

"I will be back with your drinks and to get your order in a minute." The waitress says before retreating to the kitchen.
