My combat boots clicked against the pavement as I flattened out my black tank top that fell to the belt loops of my black skinny jeans. The cold Portland air sent chills down my spine as I continued to walk home from school.

I lived only a few blocks away so I'd walk each day instead of taking the bus or riding in the car my parents bought me. It was too nice and way too expensive to take to school everyday. Imagine the things people would do to it. My older, perfect sister Nicole, who is now 20, has two cars becuase she cannot stop spending money. The money that isn't hers.

I hug my dark green jean jacket closer to my body as I make my way threw the grassy shortcut. Once I get to my house I instantly throw my bag by the door and fall on the couch. I pulled my phone out and texted Carmin, one of the few people I actually hang out with outside of school.

Carmen, come over.

I lay the phone on my stomach until I get a text back, she usually takes a while seeing as shes a very social girl. The text read,

out to eat sorry :( family dinner with dads new boss. yaaayyy *sarcasm*

I groaned.

No one was home, as usual. My father dosn't get home till around 8:30 from work most days and my mother works night shifts on weekdays at the hospital. So, it was just me for now.

I quickly did all of my homework and cooked myself some dinner, saving the leftovers for my dad. I put them in a plastic tupperware with a note that told him how long to heat the chicken and pasta up, knowing he'd be too tired to think straight when he got back. I don't know where Nicole is, she comes and goes. She mainly lives in her room at this house or in the apartment she shares with her friend.

I took a shower and slowly drifted off while listening to music playing loudly threw my headphones.

My alarm woke me at 5:30 am. After hitting the snooze a few times, I quickly got ready for school. I threw on a maroon flowy skirt that fell just around the middle of my thighs and a big white knitted sweater. I put on my short, tan boots and a long gold necklace. Today was Carmen's 17th birthday so she was having a huge party. She told me to dress nice because I won't have time to change before the party.

Carmen had so many friends that her party was an open house one, so whoever wanted to go, could. There wasn't a real invitation she just put a few posters up around school and mentioned it to people in the hallways. I hope people actually show up but knowing her, plenty will.

I looked at my reflection and shook my blonde hair. I left it in its natural messy waves and finished my makeup. I groaned and walked down the stairs to my parents room.

My dad was on a phone call in the office, fixing to leave but my mom looked as if she just got here. She had her uniform on and she was passed out ontop of her bed. I put a blanket over her and took off her shoes. I closed the blinds so when the sun rose more it wouldn't wake her, and wrote a note telling her I loved her and that I left for school without waking her also reminding her about Carmin's party that I was spending the night after. My mother liked to know where I was at all times, which is one of the things I loved about her. It makes me feel like she cares about me and wants me to be safe, unlike anyone else in my family.

Most people know me as the rich girl becuase my father owns a few very successful businesses and makes a lot of money and my mother is a nurse who also makes a lot of money. When people see my house, how big and nice it is, all they can think of is that im a stuck up rich girl. I don't let people come over becuase I don't want them to be using me for my money and I don't want people who don't know about the rich thing to find out.
