Chapter 8

Can come from far away and They lie to take the everything that we love.

Around 6am, a dark and freezing cold morning, with a high force wind blowing through Headland of Flowers, an ambulance from the capital arrived at the Holy House of Mercy (the local hospital). This vehicle had the following inscription on its side: "DIONYSUS TYLER MENTAL HOME"; along the sides there were also the letters SSP (State Special Police). The employees climb off the ambulance. Some are dressed in white and they are accompanied by two other security officers. The driver and a helper remain at the ambulance, with its back door open. It's a large vehicle, gray in color, long and with a large headroom. Two high beams had been placed up top along with a siren which kept blinking incessantly though no sound was coming from them now. It turned so intensely, with light so strong, that even closed blinds in houses couldn't keep the colors out, causing a certain amount of fear as it warned all-around of its presence. Its intensity lit the room and even intimated all around.

The security officers, wearing dark blue attire, almost black, remained by the ambulance. They wore special weapons on their white belts, along with white suspenders; all adding to their menacing look and crusty face, ill-bred.

In their detail, they resembled Nazi soldiers like the ones in WWII films displayed at the Headland of Flowers cinema every weekend. The only difference, is that instead of a helmet, they wore a cap. But it was the only difference, they haircuts and mean faces reminded those who beheld them of Nazi soldiers nonetheless.

The employees walked in and presented some documents. A few minutes before arriving at the hospital, they had stopped at Police Chief Demosthenes' home. He hadn't even gone to bed in order to wait for the ambulance which would take Gervasius, and also due to the anticipation of delivering the documents signed by Doctor; which described the patient as having "Delirious Paranoid Disorder"; an illness so grave that would ensure that Gervasius remained away for a long time. So, he hoped.

With extreme satisfaction he handed these forms to the employees charged with picking up Gervasius. He even invited them in for coffee. In turn they gave the chief no mind. They only took the forms and left him talking to himself in front of his own house before continuing on their way to the hospital.

With these forms, signed by Doctor Bronwen, in hand they arrived and only informed that, following the orders of the Police Chief Demosthenes along with orders from Doctor Abigail, also from the state police, the patient named Gervasius, from room 34, should be picked up and taken to the capital. Along with these orders, came the instruction that another dose of the anti-convulsive relaxant should be administered.

The prescription said: "Request: internal memo to the infirmary. Administer 25 MG of anti-convulsive, directly in the veins, in order to stabilize patient, prevent sudden mood swings caused by his disorder, controls the patient's anxiety, in order to ensure that the patient, Gervasius, is calmly relocated to the Dionísio Tavares General Hospital. URGENT.".

This note was signed by Doctor Abigail, a distinguished and well-known professional from the Liberal State of the South. The nurses from the local hospital, knowing she was also known by Doctor Bronwen, upon recognizing his signature as well, didn't think it worth to bother him at this hour to confirm all this before helping them take Gervasius from room 34, on a stretcher, to the ambulance outside.

And so, they placed him inside the State Police ambulance. The nurses went in as well and closed the back door while security guards made their way to the front. The engine was turned on, the headlight was lit, and at six in the morning, as they left the hospital grounds, the sirens were lit and began blaring. The sound was so loud that it woke half of the town of Headland of Flowers as it began making its way to the capital, heading for the city of Dionysus Tyler in the Liberal State of the South.
