The following day started bright and early for my first day of college classes. Sasha wasn't home when I went to bed last night but she's sound asleep this morning, so she must've snuck back in in the middle of the night. That girl is something else. I slip on a white, flowy shirt with small blue wildflowers on it and some jeans. I twist my hair into a low messy bun and skip face makeup, going straight to mascara and lipgloss. I grab my backpack and slide past the door without waking Sasha up.
The warm sun kisses my skin as I walk through the beautiful college campus to my first class. I only have three classes each day which seems extremely manageable compared to seven hour high school days, though I'm sure the work will be much more challenging. I glide through my first two classes with no problems and finally get to the class I've been waiting for, English. It's another big lecture hall full of theater-like seats with no writing surface but your lap. I sit somewhere in the middle near an aisle.
"Good morning class," the young, dark haired professor says as he sets his laptop on the desk and immediately turns to write his name on the board. "I'm Professor Bennett, I'll be teaching English 206 this semester. We're going to read some great books, have great discussions, and hopefully write some great stuff too." I can already tell this class is right up my alley.
As usual, the first day is mostly taken up with talking about the syllabus and rules but by the last few minutes he gets into an introduction assignment. We have to write about why we chose this college, easy enough.
The class is great, our professor is so passionate about what he does and that makes it all the more better. I'm actually sad to hear him say that class is dismissed. First day and I already have homework, so I return to my now empty dorm and spend most of the day working on assignments. Sasha is nowhere to be seen the whole day, what is up with that girl? After several boring introduction assignments and a microwaved dinner I end up falling asleep for about an hour. It wasn't that taxing of a day but the anxiety of starting something new tends to wear me out.
After awhile I wake up and look at my phone for the first time today, I'm not as attached to my phone as most people my age, and I have several texts from Tyler. I totally forgot to text him before I fell asleep last night.
"Babe, how's it going? All settled in?"
"Liv, haven't heard from you in while, is everything okay?"
"Well I guess that's goodnight. Text me when you get the chance, I love you."I screwed up. I have to be more on top of things, I can't afford to lose the guy I love and it's going to take a lot more effort with him still being in high school and me starting college.
"Hey Ty, I'm so sorry I never got back to you. It was a hectic afternoon and then I just passed out. It won't happen again, I promise." I finally reply. I do feel bad for slacking in my relationship already.
I'm kind of in la la land right now with how happy I am to be working on my writing and taking great classes. Maybe I'll talk to Professor Bennett after class tomorrow to ask him some questions and try to get on his good side as soon as I can. It wouldn't hurt.
