Blossom Black's Point Of View

•••

"Dinners ready, Bloss." Jacob opened my door.

"I'll be there right now." My eyes don't leave my drawing in front of me.

"You have to eat."

I stay silent. He sighs and shuts the door. I grab some shoes and and a black shirt, throwing them both on quickly before jumping out my window. I begin to walk west, on my way to the beach.

By this point, they've realized I left. And they are definitely talking about me. It's always the same. "She hasn't been the same since mom died," "it's only going to get worse," "at this rate, she's just going to die in there."

Classic. I'll admit I was sick, but I was just going through shit. I'm sure I'll get over it eventually. Depression hits different when you feel like you can't talk to anyone about why you're sad in the first place. To top it off, was there even an actual reason to be sad?

"Hey Blossom." I see Paul Lahote and Sam Uley standing around.

"Hey." I say and keep walking.

"You okay?" Paul wraps an arm around my shoulders.

"Yeah. Just needed some fresh air." I nod. He had long hair, just like all the guys around here. The two of us hang out a lot, and when he's angry, he comes to see me. We've always been good friends over the past few years.

"I don't see you out much, anymore."

"Didn't think anyone noticed." I cross my arms across my chest, and looked towards sunset.

"Well, I did."

I keep walking, and he keeps following. I go up the cliff and just sit down.

"It's peaceful up here."

"It's nice." He nods and sits beside me.

"Do you think that it's bad that I don't want to live here anymore?"

"Why don't you?"

"Because ever little thing in this place reminds me of my mom. Even the ocean." I sigh and hold my head in my hands.

"It's not bad, Blossom. It's okay to want to go other places."

"My family wouldn't get that. My sisters and brother are so tied to here. All I want to do is run."

"Come here." He holds out his arms and I enter them. I felt so at peace in his arms. He was my new happiness.

Things were great between us. As friends. Even though, I wanted it to be more.

"Paul's outside." Rachel says. I sigh and leave my room, and heading for the front door.

"Blossom, what are you doing?" Jacob tried fo stop me.

"Back off, Jake." I push him away from me and go outside. I go outside and Paul was standing there. "Hey."

"Hey. Can we go to the cliff?" He stuffed his hands in his jacket.

"Yeah. Let me just put on some shoes." He nods lightly and I go inside.

"Have you been hanging out with him?" Jacob follows me to my room. He's my twin, but he's so annoying.

"What does it matter to you?" I put on shoes.

"He's not good, Bloss."

"I'll be back in an hour."

"Blossom!" He yells as I pass him.

He has no idea that I'm on my last straw of leaving here and not looking back.

I go outside with Paul, and we walk to the cliff.

"I just got so mad." His hands went into fists. I reach over and hold his hand. Our eyes meet and he holds my hand.

"I'm always here for you, you know that."

"Yeah, um," he stumbled over his words and leaned over, kissing me. I instantly kiss him back, and I swore that this was the start of something. Of us. But, oh was I so wrong.

We spent a lot of time together over the next month. One day, everything changed.

I walk up, Paul's porch steps. His dad was stepping out.

"Hey, Blossom. Go ahead in, I think he's in his room." He smiled.

"Thanks, Mr. Lahote." I smile and go inside. I walk down the hall to his room. I hear his TV on so I open the door.

And there he was. Making out with a girl from school. They pull apart instantly.

"Blossom." He jumped up and I walk away. He grabbed my waist as I grabbed the door handle. "Don't go." I turn and look at him. His eyes were full of regret.

"Bye, Paul."

I already had a go-bag packed at home.

"What's wrong, Blossom?" Jacob walked into my room.

"Nothing." I shake my head.

"Why is there a bag packed?" I glance at it.

"I love you, you know that. It's just," I sigh and think, "it's time for me to take a break."

"A break?"

"Just for the summer." That was a lie, but I wasn't going to tell him the truth.

"Then I'll go with you."

"I need time, Jake." I stand up and face my brother, for what may be the last time. "I will be back. Don't worry about me. It's all going to be okay." I smile. I hug him and he hugs me back.

"Promise me you'll come back."

"I promise." We pull apart, I grab my bag, and quietly leave the house.
