"And Peter! Your boyfriend name is peter!"
"How could you know that?" I felt as if jolts of electricity were coursing though me. "I remember You thought your parents disapproved that you were kissing him."
Anne's voice became a whisper. "How is this possible?" Suddenly, I knew. "You kept a diary, I read it" This is crazy. The train lurched violently people cried out in fear, but it was oblivious as a new thought surfaced, one so absurd that I was almost too embarrassed to say it.
"I know it is," I admitted. "Anne, do you believe in time travel?""Science fiction? like a fairy tale I'm to believe you're really, I'm much more intelligent than I look." She wagged a finger at me. "I know someone put you up to this_"
"Please Anne I ask you to believe me." I was almost crying. My blood ran cold with bitterness.
"Anne? Do you think god is watching us right Now?"
"Yes?"
"Well to tell you the truth I think we are all fairy tales in the end. And someone told me god must be on vacation. Maybe there is no god. Maybe we just made up so we wouldn't all go crazy."
Anne's gaze was steady. "I don't believe that."
"I feel as if god thought it would be funny to make me a time traveler, we have this thing in my family where only one of us is a time traveler. But some how I became one. I don't understand it. So I really want to know, where god is now?'
"Right here," Anne said softly. "Right beside us."
"We're in a cattle car."
Anne lifted her chin toward the barred window at the top of the car. "But there are still stars."
I looked out at the sliver of the sky. "Anne, are you scared?"
"Yes."
"Even though you have faith in god?""Yes." I heard the tremor in Anne"s voice as the train slowed. "Juliana, I want to as you something. If you really from the future and you read my diary, then you must know what happen to me."
"No_"
"You can tell me," Anne insisted. "Please.""I really can't trust me I would if I could."
"I remember reading about how you loved him and didn't think you needed to wait until you were a suitable age."
Anne grinned mischievously. "I am a free thinker."
Anne leaned close, a conspiratorial gleam in her eyes. "Don't tell Peter but I don't think he is the perfect boy for me after all. I'd like break a million hearts, wouldn't you."
"Oh, yes."
"And see the world."
"And have a million adventures."
"I want to got to Paris."
"I been there, It's wonderful. Maybe after I understand it I'll come back and you can travel with me."I promised.
"Where do you want to go?"
I thought a moment. "Palestine, maybe."
"Palestine?Really?"
"I think a friend of mine is there."
"Then you go there." Anne squeezed my hand.
"Anything possible. Don't you see?"
Anne's eyes searched me, and I saw myself reflected in them, scared, no I am brave. I would not change places for a moment with and everything was going to alright."
"Yes Anne," I whispered. "Yes I do."
I felt dizzy feeling come on me.
"Anne I'm sorry but I have to go, "I cried.
"One day I will come back."
A squeal of the brakes, long grinding, as the train slowed, then stopped. "Bye Anne."
"Please come back," She say.
"I promise." I says.
I rush off the train, pass the guards, And just like that I had landed on the kitchen floor.
