Going, Going Far

24 hours a sweet day ago

I was in a car

Going, going, going, going

Going, going far.

23 hours a warm day ago

I crossed a famous bridge

I was screaming, screaming, screaming

Screaming just a smidge.

22 hours a rainy day ago

From splatters on the windshield

I was sleeping, sleeping, sleeping

Sleeping to see what my dreams revealed.

21 hours a cloudy day ago

From hollering sister very near

I was waking, waking, waking,

Waking to screeching in my ear.

20 hours a loud day ago

I was feeling blue

My sister and I were fighting, fighting

Fighting about God-knows-who.

19 hours a long day ago

My sister was not waking

However, she was snoring, snoring,

Snoring despite my shaking.

18 hours a bright day ago

Songs were being sung

The parents were singing, singing,

Singing along to the youth and the young.

17 hours a dry day ago

16 hours left

The car stopped, stopped, stopped, stopped without a theft.

16 hours a day-or night-ago

For my memory escapes me

We were dozing, dozing, dozing, dozing, to get in some extra sleep.

15 hours a beautiful day ago

Though we were getting bored

As the passenger, Dad slept, slept, slept, slept, slept, slept and snored and snored!

14 hours a gloomy day ago

People dozed again

I was getting restless, restless, restless

And could not stop squrmin'.

13 hours a bumpy day ago

The road was very unpaved

We were bumping, bumping, bumping,

Bumping through this hour of the day

12 hours a smooth day ago

The government's jobs had been done

We were halfway, halfway, halfway

Through but weren't having much fun

11 hours a strong day ago

We were stuck in traffic

I wished we could jump, jump, jump, jump over these policemen with jackets

10 hours-and counting-a dreadful day ago

Traffic was still strong

Soon cars began moving, moving, moving, moving, right along.

9 hours a day I will never forget

Not much happened at this hour

Sister was eating, eating, eating

Candies she thought sweet but were sour

8 hours a boring day ago

Have I used that word already?

Progress was moving, moving, moving, moving, moving steady.

7 hours a sun-filled day ago

We were taking in the view

Though we still had long, long, long

Time left and that we all knew

6 hours clocks were steadily ticking

I thought that I would die

Sitting, waiting, waiting, waiting

Waiting through all this time

5 hours to go-and we didn't go slow

Dad had decided to get a move-on

Five states away, away, away, away

From reaching our des-tin-a-tion.

4 hours, 4 states

We couldn't wait for this just to be over

We were impatient, impatient, impatient

And I'd forgotten my lucky clover

3 hours not even a day ago

We slept and we dozed and we dreamed

Snoring, snoring, snoring, snoring, snoring away sleep that we'd need.

2 hours a busy day ago

Life was passing by

The car was rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling through the countryside

1 hour ago, I did not know

If we'd make it in time

Traffic was starting, starting, starting

And we were in back of the line

0 hours a misty day ago

No longer in a car

I was in my house, sleeping, sleeping, sleeping and going far.

(A/N The ending may seem abrupt, but read the first lines again and you'll understand!)
