~MATTHEW~
I kept looking back at her, checking up on her. She's a wreck. My bestfriend's heartbroken and I can't do anything about it. Or maybe I could. Maybe now was the time for me to finally step into her life again. To finally make her realize that it should have been me all these times. If she would allow me.
I know the heaviness and value of those tears. I felt them before. Ironically, my tears were from my heart being broken by her. But I learned from it. I waited patiently. Maybe this time, it's my time.
"Hey, Matt?" I heard her call out my name from the bedroom. I was fixing us up cups of tea. I hurriedly finished and went to her.
"Yes, Jessie?" her eyes were swollen in tears but she still managed a smile, a sad one.
"I'm ready to go home," she said looking at her luggages and boxes.
I paused. "For good?" I asked carefully.
She sighed for a moment and looked straight at me, forcing a smile. "Yeah, for good."
The car ride back to my condo was quiet, except for that occasional sniffing and sighing I could hear from her. I wanted to talk to her about other things to get her mind off him, though I knew it would be empty and nonesense.
We got to my condo after an hour and left her things in my car. "I'll book us tickets for an early morning flight, if that's okay with you?" I asked her.
She seemed to be lost in thought. I thought she didn't hear me. But she looked at me again, just a split second too long. "No, make it tonight. Let's go home tonight." she said.
"Okay," I gave her a reassuring smile. "Does Auntie know you're coming home?"
She tried to laugh. "I was hoping you'll do it for me," she said. "Fine, I'll call her up." But I knew she wouldn't do it, couldn't do it.
When we got inside my condo, she washed up and excused herself to have an afternoon nap. I knew she was going to cry herself to sleep. That broke my heart even more.
She did fall asleep that afternoon and I can't help but watch her in her deep slumber. I held her hand for a long time. I caressed her face. I so badly wanted to kiss those lips and tear the hurt away from her heart. But I had to wait.
I was in my bedroom finalizing our flight for later when she came into my room. With the TV turned on a bit loud, I actually didn't hear her come in. I just felt her sit beside me and hug me from behind. At that moment, it was the best feeling in the world.
"So when will we fly back?" she asked.
I turned to face her and that afternoon nap did well for her atleast at the moment. Her face was a bit relaxed and her eyes weren't as swollen as this morning. "The latest flight I can get us is at 11," I finally said. "I've packed my bags when you were resting up. I've ordered us food, if you feel like eating before we go to the airport."
She sighed and cuddled up to me. Her head on my chest and arms wrapped around my body felt like that moment was right. It felt right that we were together. "Yeah, you're right. I am hungry." she said under her breathe.
