"Honey, come down for your dinner!" said Jacobs mum.
"I'm coming now," Jacob said, "just let me put away my homework."
"Your schoolbag is down here, Jacob! What were you doing up there?" she yelled.
Jacobs mum seen his face when he came downstairs, the face filled with terror, the face of dread. The face that had been scratched into deep enough that there was some blood. The face that had clearly been crying. The face that had been bullied.
"Did something happen while you were walking? Did you fall, did Chloe scratch your face?"
"I'm fine, mum! I...uh I just read a really upsetting story on the internet..."
"How did you get a scratch down your face then?"
"That's...er...a birthmark! Yes it's a birthmark!" Jacob quickly realised how useless this argument was to the person who had been caring for him since nine months before he was even born.
"Jacob just have your dinner. We'll talk about this later."
Jacob ate his dinner as fast as he could, in an attempt to best his mother. He finished his meal quicker than ever, and quickly yelled "I'm going to the shops, bye!" before his mum could stop him. He wondered what he would say when he returned home.
