Sleep was a blissful peace. It’s what everyone craves, but sadly, it’s always broken.
Delta had just been dreaming about being back home. The crisp Antarctic air, the snow blaring into her eyes, the wetness of her face. Wait. Why was her face wet?"What the fuck, Little One?!" She exclaimed groggily. Her pup, Little One, was licking her face as she had been dreaming. It was normal for Little One to lick her, but it wasn’t usually in her sleep.
"Delta! What in the Water Nation is that sort of language?" Delta's mom exclaimed, of whom had been standing in the doorway to her bedroom.
Delta immediately shot up to a sitting position. “Uh, h-hi, mom! I-I, uh, yo-” She tried to come up with an excuse, but it was in vain, for it was still early in the morning. So, she quickly gave up and just apologized. “Sorry. I won’t say it again.”
“You better not,” her mother said sternly. “Now get up. You don’t want to be late for school.”
The daughter nodded as her mother left. She yawned, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes as she got ready to leave the warmth of her bed and blankets. Even though she didn't want to, Little One was already pulling her out by her pant leg.
Eventually, she gathered up the energy to stand up and head to the shower.
An hour later, Delta was downstairs in the kitchen. Little One had jumped into the shower with her, and Delta didn’t want to be mean, so she ended up washing her pup too. As a result, she was running more than a bit late.
She ended up grabbing an apple and some chocolate chip cookies from her hidden cookie jar that her mom knew nothing about. She tried to keep it a secret from everyone, but somehow Cascade managed to find out exactly where it was. Delta suspected Cascade had a super secret cookie sense, so she tried moving it into a new spot that she just couldn't know about. She'll never find it here, she thought. And it worked, so far.
Her mother had already left for work, so nobody had any objections against her only eating an apple and cookies for breakfast. She quickly ran out the door, with her Little One in tow. She was at the school within minutes.
Going at a full sprint, she flung the schools front door open and managed to smack something. She fell backwards, and heard a familiar someone say her name.
"You okay, Delta?" Cascade was holding her hand out to her, but obviously trying to hold in her laughter.
"I fell down too!" Fawn screeched, but, thankfully, not at an ear rape level.
“No one cares, Fawn,” Delta groaned as she took Cascade’s outstretched hand to help pull herself up. And when she turned to help Fawn, she saw her standing straight up.
"Welp, guess I actually don't have to care," She joked.
“That’s rude.” Fawn retorted.
Before Delta could say anything else back, Cascade spoke up.
“Ya know what, since Delta took so long to get here and we’re already thirty minutes late to our classes, why don’t we just leave?”
“I never thought you would say something like that.” Lena said. “But okay.”
Cascade rolled her eyes. “Why? It’s not like I’m the nerd in this group.”
Delta gasped. “Rude! I’m not a nerd!”
“Yes, you are,” Lena stated matter-of-factly. “Now, back to Cascade’s idea, I’ve already said yes. I mean, do we even need to vote on this? We’ve missed most of our first periods by now, so what’s the point?”
