Dragon Ball Z: History of Gohan - Chapter 17

Future Gohan and Goku stood before the towering Great Ape Android Vegeta that blanketed them in his shadow alone. After just witnessing Tien's brutal death, the other Z Fighters questioned their fates.

A Great Ape.... but without a tail? How do we even get rid of this thing?! Goku frantically thought.

"Allowing Gero to rebuild me was the best decision I ever made, Kakarot. There is truly no stopping me now! Step aside!" Vegeta ordered as he shot a gigantic laser beam out of his eye in the direction of Goku. Goku dodged it.

"Son!" Goku shouted.

"Yeah, dad?" Future Gohan worriedly answered.

"No, not you! Present you!" Goku elaborated urgently.

"Where did he go?!" Future Gohan asked.

"Vegeta! What did you do with my son?!"

"Hmph! As if he'd be able to help you in defeating me anyway... I haven't done a thing with your boy, Kakarot!"

"Enough games!" Future Gohan shouted as he charged toward Vegeta.

Dr. Gero and Cell went outside of the hideout and almost immediately sensed the presence of a huge power. As they went to investigate, they eventually found the battlefield. Hovering above it at a safe distance, they stood in amazement.

"The Blutz wave generators I gave Vegeta! He's already used them! This is more threatening than I've ever imagined!" Gero panicked.

"I thought you said I was the perfect creation.... This seems far more intimidating!" Cell mentioned.

Future Gohan fired ki blasts at Vegeta with great persistence. He simply would not let up. His hands were flying as pure energy flew from his palms. The blasts hit Vegeta like bugs, however, and he remained unharmed by them, despite Gohan being exhausted.

"Stop it! You're wasting your energy!" Krillin shouted from a safe distance.

"No! I won't! I can't give up! This is all my fault! I'm not going to let this go on any further!" Gohan argued, continuing to waste his energy.

"Son! Stop it! You're getting nowhere with this!" Goku added.

"No, dad! It's because of me that Trunks wasn't born and because of me that all of this happened.... Tien would still be alive if it weren't for me! And now Present Me is dead by the hands of Vegeta! I haven't had any good rest since I came here! My conscience and guilt is eating me alive from the inside! I'm nothing but a screw up!" Gohan poured his soul out.

The other Z Fighters didn't argue this time. They didn't agree with what he had said, but they felt as though any attempts to calm him down would be futile and most likely only worsen things.

Vegeta, who had been standing there, unmoved by Gohan's attacks, finally made a move. Abruptly and with no warning, he swung his arm out at Gohan and grabbed him. He squeezed him as tightly as he could, crushing his entire body, much like how he had done to Goku some years ago.

"Gaaaaahhhhh!" Gohan let out a blood-curdling shriek like never before. Every structural part of his body was destroyed in this mighty squeeze.

Krillin immediately went to his instincts. He charged a quick Destructo Disk and shot it toward Vegeta's hands, hoping to make him flinch and drop Gohan. The disk spun, its edges synonymous to that of a sawblade.

It neared Vegeta's hands, only to hit them and bounce right off, flying away in the distance.

"Sorry... That was all I could think of," Krillin said.

"It's okay... But I don't know what else to do!" Goku worried.

A flash of light blinded the Z Fighters. As the light dimmed, they looked back at Vegeta, only to see his hands wide open, and Gohan not in them anymore.

"What did you do to him, Vegeta!? Why must you do this to my sons?!" Goku urgently yelled.

"I'm down here, Dad." Future Gohan stated plainly.

Goku and the others immediately looked down at the ground to see Gohan lying flat, completely limp, as if he were a ragdoll.

"He must have used an explosive wave or something to break free! Wow! He did that while Vegeta was crushing him! That's one tough cookie!" Krillin complimented.

Present Gohan finally returned with Piccolo, both doing just fine in terms of health and injuries. Before their presence was even known, they questioned if what they were seeing was real, standing before a mighty android Great Ape. Gohan immediately flew to his father and the others.

"Dad! What happened!?"

"You're alright!" Goku hugged his son, having thought he was dead.

"Well duh! I had to go take Mr. Piccolo to Capsule Corporation to get fixed up!"

"What's going on, here?" Piccolo asked.

As Goku gave them a recap on the situation, Future Gohan thought to himself.

The only reason I attacked Vegeta out of rage is because I thought Present Me died.... And now because of my hasty actions I'm completely paralyzed.. I'm gonna be out of commission for a while... And there's no telling how that's going to jeopardize the mission, all because I can't control my temper! When will I not mess everything up?!

"Look! I'll go take this big hero over to Capsule Corporation... It looks like it's his turn to be healed up! I'll be back as soon as I can!" Krillin said, grabbing Future Gohan and flying off.

Gero continued, "I'm sorry, Cell... But there's really no such thing as perfection when it comes to you. There is no limit to your power! I had just always assumed that this form would be your final, as absorbing 17 and 18 would bring you to it.. I was originally hoping for you to absorb 16, but he got away.."

"No limit, you say? Well then I see me as being the one who will crush this robot monkey as if he were nothing more than a lady bug!"

"Please don't underestimate his power, Cell!"

"Shut up, old man! I've had it with you and your arrogance! What makes you think you can boss me around? You may have awoken me, but I can get rid of you at any time I want... So I suggest you behave!"

"But, regardless, you cannot take on Vegeta right now! No person or android or thing on this planet is capable of defeating him alone right now!"

"Well then.... I propose a bit of a... collaboration between us and the Z Fighters..."
