"Distance means so little when someone means so much." I've heard this quote all my life, but I guess I never really understood what it meant. I mean, my grandma lives in Portland and I love her with all my heart, but I'm not about to make a desperate journey just to see her. My mother always told me that I would understand one day, but I never really believed her.
But on the last day of summer, I think I truly understood what it meant to love someone to the point where distance doesn't matter. That day, I realized how far away the other side of the world was. I realized how small we were.
I've said goodbye plenty of times in my life without thinking, but when you know that it may be the last time you ever see that person, you tend to think about it a little more.
You waited for me, Felix. We both knew that you couldn't leave without saying farewell. In our last minute together, I took in everything I loved about you. Your smile, your smell, your eyes. I think I'll miss you forever.
When those green eyes met mine for the last time, my heart longed to go with you. As you turned around, my eyes dropped their first tear. As you left the ground, my lungs breathed my last words to you: Zwischen den Sternen.
