Anna went to work that Friday to get her mind of things. She decided to be stronger and fight these sad feelings away. She was not this sad person and she wouldn't be for anyone.
Mahi was working at her desk as Anna walked past to get into her office. Mahi didn't look up. Anna started work and felt the day going by quicker than usual. She liked this feeling, it was better than being home moping around. There was a knock at the door and Mahi walked in.
"Anna can I talk to you?"
"Sure"
"Do you love Raj?" She blurted out. Anna hadn't expected this all so suddenly.
"What?"
"Do you love him?"
"Yea I do, I thought you said you knew" Anna replied a little too icily than she had intended to.
"Then be careful, he could do what he did to me to you and I don't want that"
"Thanks for your concerns Mahi, But I'm sure he won't hurt me – he's my friend"
"I feel, that he is already hurting you?" Mahi had stepped over the line.
"What makes you say that? I'm perfectly fine!"
"You didn't come to work for the whole week."
"That has nothing to do with Raj" Anna lied.
"Just be careful" Anna felt this sounded too much like a threat. But let it go.
"Okay – thanks for your concerns" She replied.
Mahi left the room and Anna sat feeling weird. What was all that about? Oh well maybe Mahi was being sincere. It didn't matter, Anna trusted Raj. She would see him the next day for dance lessons and just for that time she could be close to him. He may not want it, but she found comfort in those moments.
Anna woke up that Saturday feeling a little better than she had the entire week. She wanted to see Raj and talk to him again. Try to find out his secret. She made herself a promise that soon she would get it out of him. She wasn't worried as to what the secret may be, she felt surprisingly calm about the entire thing.
That afternoon Anna happily drove to the studio and arrived right on time. She walked in expecting to see Raj but to her chagrin he hadn't arrived yet. She found this a bit strange because he was always early but decided to wait. She waited for more than an hour. She had tried his phone but it kept going to voicemail, she was becoming worried. He would never stand her up especially not without some sort of advanced notice. Where was he? She decided to go to his house.
She rang the door bell a couple of times and Raj's mum answered the door.
"Aunty, is Raj home?"
"No Anna, he left a couple of hours ago, to attend an appointment"
"For what?" Anna asked worried.
"He never said, but he said he'll be back home before ten. Do you want to wait for him?"
"No aunty I can't stay that long. I tried calling him but his phone is always not available, I was just worried"
"Oh on that note, I wanted to ask you if you knew someone named Mahi"
"Mahi?"
"A girl has been calling our home phone a lot recently. She has been asking for Raj"
"Did he tell you about a girl named Mahi? Is she his girlfriend?"
"No she's not. Aunty you don't know who Mahi is?" Anna asked surprised. How could Raj's mother not know his ex fiancé.
"The name isn't familiar to me. She keeps asking me to tell Raj to call her back. Just yesterday she told me to tell Raj's friends to pass on the message to Raj as well"
"I know her Aunty, I'll take care of it" Anna said anger building up inside of her. How dare that bitch! What was she trying to pull? Warning Anna one day and then bombarding Raj will phone calls the next.
"Did you tell Raj?" Anna asked.
"I told him this morning and I think he also talked to her but didn't give me any information on her" She replied sadly.
"Don't worry Aunty I will sort it out" Anna replied and walked back to her car. She was feeling angry. But where was Raj? What appointment? Questions started popping up inside her and she had to push them down hard otherwise she would have broken down. She had no idea why she was so emotional all of a sudden.
On the way home, Anna decided to stop over at her favourite restaurant and grab some dinner. She walked in and was looking through the take away menu when she noticed two people sitting right at the back talking. She peered over and stared for awhile in that general direction. It was Raj, and the other person was a woman. She had her back to Anna so it was hard to tell who it was. A plethora of worries started to build up inside Anna.
Why is he here with a woman? Especially when he missed our class! How could he do this to me?
It looked like the woman and Raj were arguing about something. Clearly this couldn't be some sort of date. He didn't look happy at all. But Anna still felt sad, he had missed the class, time spent together to be here. She looked at her watch. It was well past 9pm. Had he been with her for the entire time? She wanted to confront them both about it, so decided to approach the table. She felt nervous all of a sudden and decided to turn back around and leave. She couldn't do it.
She left the restaurant as quickly as she could and hoped Raj hadn't seen her.
Ten minutes or so later, Raj got up to leave as well. Mahi was still sitting.
"Raj, give us another chance"
"I said no and that won't ever change"
He left her sitting there a lone. But she felt happy, knowing that Anna had seen them. Her plan had gone ahead perfectly. She knew Anna visited the restaurant almost each day after work, and had felt sure Anna would come that night.
Let's see who wins this miss Anna. If I can't have him then neither can you! He was mine first and I will try my best to get him back!
You will lose!
