Mahesh stood up with Anna clinging to his back. She held on with all her strength to his neck. She would strangle him if she must to make him leave, is what was going through her mind.

He was running toward the knife, but Anna's weight was holding him back.

"Let go of me" He said calmly.

"No! Leave us a lone!" Anna screamed.

"If you let go I will leave!"

"No!"

"The longer you hang onto me, the longer you're friend suffers" he said referring to Raj. Her mind switched to Raj and she let go of Mahesh. She ran to him and knelt near him holding his hand. She desperately pulled out her mobile and rang for an ambulance.
"Raj, Hang on okay" She cried

"Don't worry" he said, his voice was weak.

"The ambulance is coming" She said barely able to get the words out.

"I know Jaan"

She held onto his hand and sobbed. No one noticed Mahesh walking out of the house, no one seemed to care.

The ambulance arrived a little later, but Raj was barely awake anymore. Anna's entire body ached and she couldn't stop crying. She refused to let them look at her, insisting they spent all their time on Raj.

On the way to the hospital, Anna was sitting in the back of the ambulance with Raj covered in blood. Her hand was bleeding but she refused to let anyone look at it, Raj was bleeding and she refused to let go of him. Her mobile started ringing. It was Jai.

"Hello?" she said sobbing.

"Anna! What's wrong?"

"Jai Jai" She cried harder.

"Anna, Please" He said desperately. He felt so scared.

"It's Raj – come now please" Anna said and dropped the phone and sobbed hard onto her hands, getting blood on her face.

They arrived at the hospital and Raj was rushed into the operating theatre, leaving Anna anxiously sitting outside. The doctor finally persuaded her, that in the meantime she should get her hand looked at, as well as washing her face. She went into the emergency department and had to have a couple of stitches. She arrived back outside the operating theatre with a fresh bandage wrapped around her mildly throbbing hand.

Her phone rang again.

"Jai?"

"I'm coming, on my way. Tell me what happened"

"This man, he stabbed Raj" Anna said barely able to speak.

"Is he okay now? What's happened?"

The doctor walked out of the operating room, toward Anna. She put her phone on a chair and went to him.

"Doctor, how is he?"

"I'm afraid he's not looking good. He's really weak – he was weak even before this happened it seems and his body isn't fighting anymore. We sewed him up, but he's not responding well at all"

"What!?" Anna cried out.

"I'm sorry; my best guess would be a day"

She couldn't believe what she was hearing. A day?

"Can I see him?" Her mouth was dry.

"He's being moved to ICU now, you can go up there too"

Anna picked up the phone again.

"Jai, the doctor told me Raj isn't looking good. He says a day"

"A day what?" Jai said fear creeping up on him.

"Raj only has a day, or so" Anna said crying.

"Okay Anna I'm on my way now" Jai said and hung up.

He drove faster, tears running down his face. How could this happen? He would kill whoever did this to Raj. One day? He thought about How Anna must be feeling and felt worse. He had an idea, and quickly made a stop at a shop.

Anna ran up to ICU, She didn't want to use the lifts. She wanted to feel pain, feel tired, and feel as worse as Raj probably did.

"Excuse me I want to see the patient who just came here from the theatre, his name is Raj" She said out of breath.

"Let me just look it up" the lady at the reception said uninterested.

"Please hurry" Anna sobbed.

"He's in room 2 – just up there" She pointed.

Anna ran. She didn't think running was allowed but she didn't care. She reached room 2 and opened the door. He was lying there, with the ECG monitors attached – a soft beep beep sound was all she heard as she watched him. She got closer and put her hand on his forehead, running it through his hair.

He stirred and slowly opened his eyes, looking at her.

"Anna, I don't think..."

"Shhh" She said placing her finger on his lips. He didn't need to say it, she couldn't deny what she felt and she felt it was nearing.
