Ichigo Kurosaki and his friends broke into the Soul Society, defeated captains, just to save Rukia Kuchiki from being executed. Then the unspeakable happened, Aizen, Tosen, and Gin left the Soul Society, and were actually all evil. Ichigo saved Rukia, and the Soul Society agreed to let her live. Ichigo is now a deputy soul reaper in the World of the Living. Now you ask where was the main character, Akemi, during all of this? Well she was knocked out from a "training session" with Captain Zarakai, and was in the infirmity the entire time. So Ichigo has no idea who Akemi is, and she doesn't know him. If she were awake, one of Ichigo's friends would probably be dead. So it's a good thing that she was knocked out. Akemi has learned about all of the ryoka, and became friends Rukia too.
