Chapter One~ In The Beginning

In the beginning, God created the heaven and the Earth and all the other stuff he wanted to create. He then created people like the Kensingtons and James. Nobles. Far, far relatives of royals and very rich business people.

As a kid, ever since I popped out of my mother, Julia Carter James, I was well aware of my roles and duties. Now, even though I'm no where near royal I still had to behave in the best manner. I had to be the best. Being born in a family that is at a high level in society, there was no room for mistakes.

Growing up I've always been around the Kensington family. Every birthday, day out, school trip, school dance, party, first date, you name it. The Kensington Family has always been apart of my life.

Don't get me wrong, I actually love them. Even though I'm not related to them by blood, they treat me like a member of the family. Which, if you think about it, by committing to the rules of the contract I am actually a member of the Kensington.

Now my family consists of myself, my older sister and brother, and my parents. Together we are the James, forever bounded by that darn contract to be linked to the Kensington Family.

I hated the whole idea of having no choice. No right to choose what you want. No free will.

Even though I was a well behaved kid, getting good grades and being on the honor board, head of sports teams and achieved so much, I've also grown to be rebellious.

I did and still do things that my parents or older siblings are unaware of and I believe it was those things that led me to her.

Looking back, I now realize that I've always known her.

We went to the same middle school. I've tried to help her with her books.

She was at that bar where I almost saved her from trouble.

Turns out she's a fighter. She was at that diner.

She's always at that diner. I think that's where we officially had the longest conversation to this day.

"Can I take your order?" She had asked. Her dirty blond hair was tied in a pony tail. Her pale skin was glistening under the light due to small streaks of sweat. Her uniform a bit disheveled and messy.

It was a late afternoon and my friends and I decided to get something to eat after our motor cycle race.

"Uh, yeah." Ken replied as he scanned the menu.

I rolled my eyes. "Why do you always do this? You know exactly what you're going to order so what are you looking for?"

"Something new?"

The diner was a small place off the main road. It was in the old town's shopping mall. You know in those old movies where there is this mall with arcades and ice- cream places and little movie theatres? Yeah, a place like that. It had a faint beige and pink color with hints of sky blue. The tables where made of wood, unknown type, wooden chairs around them in the center and it's surrounded by small booths. It wasn't an ideal place to have lunch because it seems unsanitary on the outside but, this place is really quiet. I can do whatever I want or be whoever I want without being judge or worry about the consequences.

Away from the spotlight.

I shook my head at him. "He wants the usual, regular. I'll take a number five. The others will have the number three and six?" I looked over to ensure that I got their orders right and they nodded. She wrote them down.

"Anything else? A beer? Maybe a slice of our famous pie?" She asked.

"Just the beer, we're good," Jonathon answered fanning his hand in a shewing motion while scrolling through his phone. She gave him a disgusted look then walked away.
