Okay, let's not panic. Panicking would the worst thing to do right now. Or getting out a can of petrol...No, stupid thought, brain, just go back to sleep.
"Help!" I shouted. "Help!" I waited. The only response was something falling outside. Shit. I was going to die. I was going to be burnt to a crisp. My corpse would look like my mother's cooker. Bugger.
I looked around the bathroom. I had put wet paper towels underneath the door but I didn't think that they were doing much good. There was a window at the top of the wall but there was no way I could get through it. Damn sensible shoes. I took my phone from my bra, and was about to dial Sian's number, when it started to ring.
Niall.
I gulped and tentatively pressed the answer phone.
"Evie, where the fuck are you?" he exploded. Did he really have to shout so loud? I held the phone about an inch away from my head, while he ranted and raved. Was this honestly the best time for this? Seriously?
"I'm in the toilets," I said calmly. Calm? My God, this wasn't a time to be calm! I should have been climbing up the walls, screaming at the window so that someone would find me. Calm?
"You're in the building? The one that's on fire?"
"Oh, so that was what those big flames were," I groaned sarcastically. "I had no idea."
"Evie," Niall growled.
"What?"
"I'm coming to get you."
"No!" I yelped. "Don't you dare, you idiot! Just tell someone where I am; you don't need to-"
He's hung up on me. I literally could have thrown the phone at the wall. Not only had I put myself in danger, I had successfully managed to put Niall in a danger. I had to say; I had a gift. I coughed, the smoke from under the door finally reaching me. The water from the taps overflowed the sink, running out over the floor. Well, if I didn't die from smoke inhalation or being burnt to a crisp, there was always the possibility I could drown.
I groaned and sat down down on the toilet, watching the door. I hoped that someone had stopped Niall from his rescue attempt. Why hadn't the idiot just told someone where I was? Would that have been so difficult? This was the last time that I was going out with Sian. I was beginning to think that God had started a vendetta against me. What was this; piss on Evie year? And there was me thinking that I had already been through that.
"Evie!" The voice seemed muffled against the crackling of flames licking against the door. Moments later, it slammed open, revealing a soot covered Niall. Instead of saying something heartfelt and romantic, I pointed to his leg.
"Your trousers are on fire," I said. He looked down and patted the flames with his hands, shaking his leg to try and douse the smouldering flames. Then he looked back to me, shaking his head.
"You're in a burning building," he said, walking towards me, "and you're sitting down?" I stood up.
"It wasn't like I could go anywhere," I hissed. I looked behind him at the direction he had come. How had he managed? The flames were twice the size they had been, and several beams for the roof had fallen.
"Come on," he said, dragging me towards the window. Yeah, only one problem; there was no way that I was going to be able to get up there. Niall kicked a bin over and placed it against the wall, then he turned back to me.
"I'll smash it then you go through, okay?" I sighed and then nodded. My breathing sounded croaky and horrible. Every time I took a breath, my chest throbbed with pain. I watched as Niall got up on the bin and elbowed the window with full force. It shattered, sending glass shards flying everywhere. He groaned and came back down. I gasped when I saw the glass that had embedded itself in his face and the blood that was trickling from the cuts. I was just about to touch it when he shook his head and hoisted me onto the bin. I was too short to be able to get through the window, but when I looked around to tell Niall this, I caught sight of the flames quickly making their way into the bathroom. He looked around too and and grabbed me by the waist, and sort of...threw me up so that I could reach the window ledge.
