Upon hearing Sirius's words, Harry's eyes widening in shock, as he suddenly had the same realization as Hermione did. The duo locked eyes, both in a complete panic- although, Harry seemed to be on the verge of tears, as he remembered the horrors of his childhood. Hermione's gaze was still fastened to the anguished boy's eyes, and despite knowing it was Harry, she couldn't help but feel as though she was staring into her own eyes.

Harry was the first to look away, as he gathered Hermione in his arms, still comfortingly soothing her. "We need to leave immediately!" His voice was shaky, but somehow sturdy and comforting as well. Almost like the bitter wind, which still managed to calm her despite its constant nipping.

"W-We'll explain later..." Hermione mumbled, answering the marauders' confused expressions. They nodded in response, remaining completely silent, which caused her to sigh in relief because she certainly didn't feel like discussing this. Hermione could feel Harry's pounding heartbeat against her back, as he held her closer to him, wanting to feel her body pressed against his, for it seemed to soften him in some way.

"Mione, grab the baby..." Harry muttered, releasing hold of the brunette, and allowing her to protect his younger self. As Hermione stepped away from Harry, she instantly breathed out, for she could finally seem to find her breath once more.

Quickly, she lifted the baby boy into her arms, grinning down at him. Her eyes were full of love, as she held Harry's younger self in her arms, scared to let go. A sick feeling suddenly developed in her stomach, as she thought of what could have happened sixteen years ago.

"Let's go..." Harry hollered, softly wrapping his arms around Hermione's shoulder, and leading her out of the bedroom. The duo traveled down the stairs, followed by the marauders, who were still completely befuddled.

"Mione and I can't apparate, because we have the baby with us, so we'll meet you there. Also, don't tell Peter anything!" Harry started, his focus shifting to the gorgeous girl standing beside him. Unknowingly, he continued to stare at her, smiling to himself.

"Now, all we need is a safe place to stay, with people you trust." Hermione mumbled, still fondling the baby boy in her arms. However, she seemed to be the only one who didn't notice Harry's stare.

"Well, Padfoot, we can go to the Weasley's." Remus suggested, causing the two Gryffindors to smile.

"That works..." Sirius nodded in agreement, turning towards the kids and noticing their blissful expression. "I'm guessing you know the Weasleys."

"Yeah, we're close." Hermione chuckled, beaming at the thought of her best friend. "You guys should hurry!! The longer we stand here, the sooner he'll come. Harry and I will be there shortly."

"Who are you talking about?" Remus questioned, slightly tilting his head to the side in confusion.

"We'll explain later..." Harry answered, watching as the two marauders apparated to the Weasleys.

"Now we just have to hurry and grab baby Harry some supplies." Hermione giggled, gazing up at Harry, only to see that he was already looking at her; in fact, if only she knew how long he had been looking at her.

"Harry we should really get going, it's been over an hour, I'm starting to get worried." Hermione yelled from upstairs, stuffing a pack of diapers and a soft blanket into a bag.

"Coming!" Harry responded from downstairs, his voice was faint and muffled. However, as she began to hear his approaching footsteps she felt safer.

"Did you get enough food for him?" She questioned, motioning to the crib where baby Harry was fast asleep.

"Yeah, it's all packed..." Harry responded, grinning at her. It was quite ironic because both of them were in complete danger but somehow felt safe around each other.

Gingerly, Harry approached Hermione, laying his head softly upon her shoulder. He loudly groaned, his tone of voice was a mixture of exhaustion and pain. "It's ok, we'll both make it out of here." She softly whispered, resting her head on top of his.

"Thanks, Mione..." Harry cooed, lifting his head up, and smiling at her. "But we should leave now, before anything ha-"

Instantly, there was a muffled knock at the front door, draining the color from Hermione's face. "M-Maybe it's Remus and Sirius c-coming to check on us." She suggested, stumbling upon her words, as she gripped onto Harry for support.

"Mione, it'll be alright, d-don't worry. I-I won't let anything bad happen to you, trust me." Harry reassured her, holding onto her as they slid down to the floor. Hermione began to uncontrollably weep, as she collapsed in Harry's lap, latching onto him.

"Shh...I got you." Harry cooed, caressing her back and thigh in an attempt to calm her down.

Hermione turned to look at baby Harry who was still sleeping, just as they heard the front door snap open. She gulped in fear, the color completely draining from her face. What did it feel like to die?

"Harry..." She whispered into his ear, as she buried her face into the crook of his neck, inhaling his scent. "I d-don't want to l-loose you." Her voice quivered, as she chocked on her salty tears.

If Voldemort killed baby Harry, what would happen to him now? And that's when she decided, that she would do what Lily Potter did, no matter what the outcome was.

Immediately, they heard the creaking of the stairs, as the intruder seemed to carefully take his time- almost as if he was expecting to surprise the couple. The one thing that Hermione knew for sure, was that he couldn't know that they weren't the actual James and Lily Potter.

The footsteps came to a sudden halt, which signaled that their time was running short. Before Hermione could think, she grabbed Harry's face, engulfing him in a passionate kiss. She wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, pulling him closer to her. Pulling away, she sent a saddened smile in his direction, as she stood up, leaving the comfort that she had found behind.

"No, Mione, you can't..." Harry whimpered, rapidly shaking his head as the tears streamed down his face. He painfully watched as Hermione made her way over to the crib, crouching down in front of it.

"I have to..." Were the last words she mumbled before the door opened, revealing a dark, hooded figure.

Hermione shared one last look with Harry, before clenching her eyes. She knew what she had to do. Within a brief moment, she jumped in front of the crib right before everything turned black. All pain was erased; all fear was removed; all emotion was hidden.
