"Augustus -" Nothing. A deadline. A broken heart beat, as if it was heard through the other line.
Augustus waited for Hazel Grace's voice but when he heard the fall of the phone through the other side, something was dearly wrong. He spoke warily, as if his girlfriend would, though unlikely of her, yell "Gotcha!" then laugh and tell him about her day.
But no. She did not speak another word. And if words from her are the reassurance to keep Augustus's heart intact, his name was the last she ever spoke.

It was a blow through the heart, a slash on a neck and pull of a trigger was that Augustus fell through. Augustus fell. Fell in love, fell in pain. And that was what it was.
Hazel Grace is dead.
And Augustus was hit by a thought like a ton of bricks how Hazel Grace was right. Oblivion is not to be worried of. He was not alone in that fear.
But being alone in the pain that only he can feel, with no one to share the pain with is much more. Oblivion is for everyone. Hazel Grace's death is for him. The fear unthought of before crept up to his knees and wrapped around his neck to kill him.
And another unthought thing is that even the air comes back to our lungs and the pump in our chest is felt, we could still be dead. Augustus Waters, without her and although breathing, could never be himself. Ever.
Augustus Waters is dead.
